Made the 17km journey all the way from Nuwara Eliya town, only to be informed that the farm is closed for visitors due the Corona Virus. What irks me is not the fact that they have been compelled to take precautions, but that they wait till visitors come all that way to the entrance only to be asked to turn back and go.
Maybe if they published a circular or public notice, it would help with visitors not wasting their precious time and fuel making the drive. Poor Management decisions or inconsiderate management for sure.

Located approximately 17 km away from the Nuwaraeliya city Centre. This is one of the prime locations of commercial-scale fresh milk production in the country. New Zealand farm is also part of the Ambewela farm. So, sometimes the place is known as “little New Zealand”. The road accessing the farm has a breathtaking view of the lush green grasslands.
Need to get tickets to enter the premises. A large area has been dedicated for maintaining cattle, goats and hairs. Visitors can see the milking process. We went around 5.30pm and there was one milking scheduled at around 6.00pm. There is a little shop to purchase milk, cheese and butter. However, does not have much variety or collection. Didn’t enjoy the tour after seeing poorly maintained caged animals.

Entering into the green pastures with cold mist gives a great feeling.
It's wonderful to learn about how they milk cows with technology. Seeing cows walking along the way to the milking area was a great opportunity.
The Stud bulls were really big than expected.
Female goats were kept in separate cages with 2 male goats on both side cages.
I was amazed to look at the size of rabbit.
Finally had the opportunity to taste fresh cow milk & goat milk.
A great place to visit with your kids.

A must visit place for educational purpose, specially when you are accompanying kids. The route to this farm is beautiful with rolling hills and undulating topography. One can sea animals in cow shed and understand the whole process of dairy farming.

Went to visit as a family, and it was a nice experience with educational value as well.
Able to witness the milking session.
Good experience for kids as well and good place to learn on functions of a farm.
Better to visit on milking time sessions to experience that process as well.
Recommended!

The farm was closed (on 18.5.24) and there was no information given to the usual hotels in the area. We were staying at a well known local hotel and they had no idea that the farm was closed. It was a wasted morning!
It's going to be closed for another week. So it might be a good idea to call before you decide to drive all the way there.

Its a long way to travel to get to Ambewela Farm from Nuwara Eliya. If you are going to worlds end make sure you make it in the same trip. You're visit will take about 1-2 hours based on the level of interest. There are particular times which you must be mindful of.eg:- time they milk cattle, feed them etc.
But be ready for the foul smell inside the areas the animals are fed.
You dont need any prior approval to enter this place. The entry ticket is Rs. 50 per person.

The nature surrounding the ambewela farm area is a very spectacular one, starting from the turn offat the ambewela railway station to the farm it’s very pleasing nature view to the eye.
The farm area is sometimes surrounded by mist and the weather can be very cold.
Even though this was my second visit, my family and I really enjoyed the visit, the cows, goats, rabbits and specially the milking of the cows at 12.00-12.30pm which was an good experience that you don’t see every day.
Farm has a shop available where you can by fresh milk, cheese, yoghurt …etc. ,
This is worth visiting

The journey to Ambewala farm from N'eliya is approx. 17kms which would take about 30mints due to the roads not carpeted and lots of bends. You get to pass a beautiful lake and a dam which you will not feel like taking your eyes off from the view! If you go to nuwaraeliya, you should visit the ambewala farm to check out some giant animals! :-)

The cows that were kept in the various sheds seem to be in very sad conditions. The pregnant ones for example were all chained with almost no room for movement. Calves were sleeping on metal racks. Live rabbits (sold for meat) are kept in small individual cages where the floors of the cages are uncovered wire mesh. They are in really uncomfortable conditions.
