This was a informative tour of Hoovers birthplace. Recommend watching video at visitors center, and library. Interesting to see how he lived, and how he never forgot his roots even after being separated from his brother and sister. Read review of library for additional information.

Visited this site with friends who also love going to National Park Sites. I loved how many of the buildings on the grounds were open for us to walk in and explore what life was like for President Hoover during his early life spent in Iowa. We could walk into his family cottage, the school house, the blacksmith shop and... More

See a blacksmith. Sit in Quaker Meeting House. Walk to the gravesite of President Hoover. A great walk by multiple turn of the century houses.

Family weekend getaway...( wife husband 4 kids) . 16yr old daughter saw something about the 8 ft. Tall statue of Isis being on the grounds and we love to see offbeat attractions. Made a stop...neat buildings of the Hoover life growing up. It was too cold to do much outside. Will be back this spring to check it out more... More

This is a part of the Presidential library and a must to visit. To see how he grew up and what he became is fantastic. His small town is well preserved and well labeled! It is a short walk from the library. Also you must visit the grave sites! We'd love to come back again and spend even more time!

This site gives a great overview of how Hoover grew up, even though he only lived here in his early years. I doubt most know he was an orphan, a "self made man" through his years at Stanford U before it was "STANFORD", a brilliant engineer who made a fortune from hard work and great ideas, and a true human... Well preserved beautiful small town, there are cottages, work areas, streets that existed when Hoover was a boy. The main town of west branch is adorable too. Not as large as another similar site Colonial Williamsburg, but certainly of the same quality. The fall colors were a beautiful setting for this step back in time.

It was so interesting to see and to feel what it was like during President Hoover's time! I was so glad that the original buildings were preserved for generations to view!

If you are at the museum anyway, it is worth the time to walk through the Historic Site. It gives one a sense of the President Hoover's truly humble beginnings.

We had decided to go to the presidential library and discovered that it sits on an historic site overseen by the National Park Service. The short film in the visitor center is worth seeing. Park Rangers are available to answer questions. You can see the home, church, school & blacksmith shop in about an hour.
