The morning class starts with a trip to the local market providing a unique opportunity to see where the villagers source not only their food and spices but almost anything that they need. The lesson itself progresses at a leisurely pace with each operation (cutting, chopping, grinding etc.) demonstrated and supervised with explanations of numerous variances to the recipe. All utensils and ingredients are provided along with your own cookery book to keep for future reference. You are also guided through the garden and accommodation with interesting details of family life. One word of advice, only have a light breakfast as the lunch that you prepare will satisfy even the heartiest of appetites.

The class is held in a private compound in the hills above Ubud. It's a lovely setting. We had a trip to the market where the spices were explained by Nyoman, who was teaching us Balinese cooking. When we came back, we tasted the coffee ground in his garden, it was lovely and he outlined what we would be cooking. I was with a friend who has never cooked, but he loved it! Everyone cooked their own food and ate it so everyone had the full cooking experience. Thoroughly recommend this class.

Everything about this day was fantastic! We were picked up promptly on time and taken to the family compound. The market experience was great and our guide/chef provided great explanations of everything we saw. He was knowledgeable and a good cooking instructor as well. Everything was very clean and freshly prepared. Highly recommended!

The KDongDing cooking class was just brilliant. We were picked up at our hotel by a friendly driver who took us to a local market outside Ubud where our teacher Nyoman met us and showed us round, explaining about the local produce and recycled products. We then went to a beautiful Balinese compound which has been home to his family for the last 600 years and where we met several of the 43 people who live there today, including the oldest, his grandmother, and the youngest, a tiny niece. The cookery school is very well equipped, with gas hobs for every participant and ingredients and equipment expertly prepared and set out by several aunties. Nyoman talked us through the different spices and vegetables we'd be cooking with, sharing a wealth of information about their uses and medicinal properties. Most of the produce was grown or reared in the garden or the family's ricefields down the road. After donning pinnies and Balinese headscarves, we chopped and mixed a blend of spices which formed the basis of several savoury dishes - soup, curry, kebabs and a salad. For dessert we made green crepes filled with a delicious local jam. Nyoman helped us get instagrammable videos of the pancake flipping and photos of our creations before we sat down and ate them for an extremely tasty lunch.
I would highly recommend this family business if you are looking for an enjoyable and delicious Balinese experience.

My wife and I were picked up by our driver at the time that was told to us over e-mail and Whatsapp at the location that we had requested. We entered the vehicle that had only one other guest and made our way to the traditional Balinese Ubud marketplace. Mr. Black (Nyoman) arrived and gave us a tour and explanation of the traditional marketplace with English that is exceptional for what we were used to having been in Bali for a week. He later talked about the traditional street foods that were all there with locals eating and enjoying their meals as stand owners would prepare and serve their guests. We then entered the car again and went to Mr. Black's home. We sat and first enjoyed some coffee or tea and conversation about the Balinese home and culture, discussing the style of homes, how the home architecture is created from the "North House" and temple locations, to the gardens and pigs as investments. He then brought out the spices and ingredients to be used today in the dishes and showed us each of them, allowing us to see, feel, smell, and taste each of them before beginning to cook. The day was wonderfully smooth. He took all the photos for us and his aunts were there to essentially make sure that absolutely nothing went wrong when we would leave our cooking stations to wash our hands or to start working on a different dish. The food was finally all set, plated, and we brought it to to the table to eat together.

I had a great time with Nyoman who is an instructor at his house. Me and my girlfriend really enjoyed it. It took place in a local market and his house. In his house you get to see local Balinse house including his own coffee trees. He was happy to introduce the Balinese culture and to stop for our questions. He always tried to make sure that everyone was following him.
I really recommend this place especially to people who look for following things.
1. You can have a more personal conversation. If you have any questions you can ask him and he's more than happy to answer that question.
2. You can see actual traditional house including temples and plantations.
3. You prepare your OWN 5 dishes.

Nyoman is really a wonderful teacher and we were fortunate enough to be enjoying a private cooking class. You get to see his house and meet his family, which adds a wonderful personal touch to the experience. The menu is really varied and delicious. Make sure you arrive hungry because it's really copious as well. Definitely recommended, thanks again you guys!

We took this cooking class and it was very fun. Nyoman teaches you how to make a basic sauce that can be used a number of ways (in soups, on meats, as a marinade) and amazingly when used on different recipes, makes the recipes scrumptious and different from one another. We also made a curry, a salad, a dessert, a soup, and satays. Very nice environment to cook and each person has a station. The cooking class is in his home. Afterwards you eat what you cook and he gives you a certificate and a recipe booklet to take home.
We also booked the morning class which included a trip to the local market to see all the fruits, vegetables, meats, spices that were used in the cooking class. The local market is worth the effort to see.

It was an amazing experience, after a visit of the true food local market, the team teach us secrets of Balinese ingredients and explain how to prepare them and how to cook them, then we cooked ourselves under the supervisory of the team. Food was so fresh and so good. They delivered us a book of recipes. If you’re in Ubud and if you love food you have to try !!

We had a fabulous time at the cookery school! We are a family of 4 (2 teens), we booked last minute and ended up in an afternoon/evening session with just the 4 of us, it was like a private lesson! Nyoman was a great host, we met his family, were shown around his house & farm (met all the animals!) and got to know so much about the Balinese culture. We then individually cooked our own 5 course meal! Nyoman gave us lots of secret tips & tricks and lots of nutritional information about the Balinese ingredients. We would definitely recommend this cookery school, it was just brilliant & it was great to support a family business directly! An absolute must when you go to Ubud.
