Small group tours available after getting tickets at park service office nearby. Guide was ver knowledgable. You will start on the back porch, stand in the very basic kitchen, peek into a library, walk through the dining room, and enter the foyer which looks into a parlor and less formal living room. Guide will point out interesting details. Worth seeing... More

I began my day visiting the Truman Library and Museum, but thought the day wouldn't be complete without also visiting his home. Tickets are purchased a few blocks away at the Visitor Center in town. They only let 8 people in at a time, so you have to get a ticket for a specific time slot. They have a 15... More

This is really an interesting home to visit. You can really see that he was a self-educated, down to earth person. The former first family, lived simply and quietly. The house is maintained very well and the tour guides are very informed.

Due to Bess Truman's grandfather building the house wrong there is no tour of upstairs. Reasonably priced. Run by the Park Dept and the tour guide was knowledgeable.

The tour limited to 8 people at a time , it requires tickets that are purchased about 8 block East at the visitor center, located at Main St and Truman Road. The visitor center also has a movie about 20 minutes long. The house tour walks you through the main level of the home that is preserved circa ~1985 when... More

Short drive to see where the President lived. Historic sites are usually worth the effort to see them.

My wife and I recently visited some of the Truman sites in Independence. We stopped at the National Park building on Main and watched a short movie on Truman and signed up for a tour of the Truman home, a few blocks away. Since we grew up in the 50's, the home tour was like a trip thru the past... More

We arrived shortly after 9:30, watched the 15 minute movie and then toured the Truman home at 219 Delaware. Tickets must be purchased at the Visitor Center before going to the home. Only 8 persons allowed on the tour, which is Ranger led. You only see the first floor of the home which is decorated as it was when Bess... More

Step back into time with a visit to President Truman's home. The stories were very interesting and grounds beautiful. We were not allowed to go upstairs, so we didn't get to see much.

The tour of this home led by park ranger gives you the feel for how truly Truman was a common man. "the people's president" how simple he chose life. Bess's grandfather a lumber mill owner built the home & the ornate finishes speak for the pride craftsmen had then. When he left office there were no secret service with them... More
