What an opportunity to see where President Truman lived on retreat from the White House and after retirement from the presidency. A simple home with roots from the heartland, it demonstrated how frugal the Trumans lived in modesty and as a good neighbor. A park ranger guided tour that was both informative and inspiring in today's age of politics. Tickets... More

You need to purchase your ticket at the visitors center on main street prior to going to the house and purchase them early because there are only 8 people allowed on every 30 minute tour. The ranger said it sells out quickly. We had a wonderful guide (guy with long white beard) who was filled with a lot of knowledge.... More

As part of our family reunion we went to President Truman's House. There is a maximum of 8 people per tour so one of the party had to wait outside, though he had been there before. It was amazing to be walking through the house as it was when the Trumans lived there and hear the stories about them. Well... More

Very interesting. My grand kids (13 & 15)were completely taken by the entire experience. If your are interested in mid 20th century history and politics, this house and the Truman Library/Museum are a must see.

You must tour Truman's house if you are in the area! Start in the visitor's center and watch the short movie. You buy your house your tickets there, also. We decided to drive to the house instead of walking. There is plenty of parking. The house from the outside is simply beautiful. I was so excited to check inside out!... More

The tickets to see the home are purchased from another site than the home. We did not see the upstairs of the home.

We went to the Truman Museum and Library as well as the Truman home in Independence, Missouri. I learned a great deal about the man who didn't want to be Vice President let alone president! The layout of the museum is very user friendly and the outdoor area ( gravesite) were interesting. As for the tour (park ranger ), it... More

The National Park Service operates this home and is located a short drive from both the Truman Library and the downtown area. You must secure your free ticket at the NPS building off the square in downtown Independence. A park ranger will escort you through the house. The home is just as it was when the Trumans lived there.
