The museum adequately focuses on the jumping off point of four trails. It discusses the routes and the excess (thought necessary) loads starting out. The railway depot caught my interest. I visited in 2008 on a rainy day ... which made for good photos without glare.

We found this museum very interesting, Very informative intro film and lots of displays. We did not know Independence Mo was the starting point for many of the frontier trails. Our ancestors really had it tough heading out West and had lots of courage to build a better life for themselves. We learned a lot and glad we visited and... More

Not what we expected. Old film about the trails. Enjoy a walk through history of the west. I was disappointed in expecting a blacksmith and other activities.

I did not anticipate that I would enjoy the museum as much as I did. I learned a lot about the westward movement. Well worth your time.

It was iteresting to see what it look took to finance a trip out west. The cost of everything you needed and what you ended up leavig oon the trail.

We had a couple of hours to kill one afternoon and this is where we choose to visit. It was just right for the time we had and not very expensive. But, the museum is smaller than we anticipated. Still, there is good information and you get a good feel for the settlers who passed thru the area and the... More

Westward Ho!! This area of Missouri became the launch point for all trails west - the Santa Fe, the Oregon, the Mormon trail and the California trail (the latter two apparently traveled Oregon awhile and then split apart). The museum offers a dated film that does explain the trails. The museum has a couple of full size wagons and a... More

I have been to a few museums that feature history about old west trails. This one is OK, not the best, not the worst. It had some interesting exhibits and I felt it was worth the $6 admission. Spent about an hour or so here. It is close to the Jail, Marshall's home and museum which is another interesting place... More

Sounded interesting so visited on way somewhere else. Interesting but after with other reviews that some audio with displays would be nice.

The museum, while quite small, was well organized and detailed. It was interactive, which was fun (we loaded a wagon to see if we could carry everything we needed) It makes me truly appreciate all of our modern conveniences!
