The people are so nice and friendly. They were preparing for the moonlight ceremony when I visited. There were some activities in their Banjar on that day. The houses are so ancient. They speak a different language from the normal Balinese and have slightly different tradition. Some houses sell traditional clothes. Their speciality is kain gringsing, which is very rare now. It takes years to complete from cotton to cloth. The design is always classic with typical colours of black, red, yellow, and white. It is natural dye, such as candle nuts. They use the ones which have already fallen from the trees.

It took about 1.5 hours from Ubud where I was staying. The roads are smooth now. It is a must visit place in Bali.

Just 7 km from candidasa is tenganan pegringsingan, a bali aga village (the original bali). This pleasant, tranquil pleace is worth a visit and the people are welcoming and good - natured.

We found Tenganan worth seeing, but we didn't buy anything. Everything worth buying was way overpriced. (I already have pre-world War II double Ikat weavings, acquired almost 40 years ago. These are superior to what you get nowadays).

They are pretty firm on their high prices for their work, not that everything sold in the village was their work. I noticed many things for sale that could be gotten in Ubud market for a lot less.

When I tried to bargain, a seller told me that if I didn’t pay his asking price, another tourist would. So I stopped shopping and just enjoyed the place. I had a pleasant time talking with the older people.

They are in the process of setting up shops outside the village, which will be completed soon, so visit sooner than later.

Before the trip, i read an article about Desa Tenganan. And by the time i got there, i witness everything. The handycraft and the ambience so great. Authentic houses stand along the walk. Woven fabrics hanging on each door. Lots of wooden craft attached on every wall stealling my eyes.

I met some weavers whom share their strories and experiences. And then i heard balinese music came from a house in the corner. It felt so great!

This Tenganan village near Candidasa of Bali is being maintained very carefully to hold its heritage value. You can see cocks being kept in hand made boxes which are kept outside of each house. These cocks are put to cock fighting in periodic time intervals during village festival times. You can also
