Ketut, in the centre, is my kind of guy.

He runs Side By Side Organic Farm (his brother owns the land across the the footpath). Before C19 he used to invite people from all over the world to his eco-stay and restaurant using the profits to educate local farmers against pesticides and intensive farming practices. He talks about how the oil from the tractors pollutes the land, how electric fishing kills the baby fish unnecessarily, how the chemicals destroy the soil nutrients. He’s out to demonstrate to others by hands on learning that you can live sustainably and successfully.

He grows pretty much everything he can and is experimenting with fresh water fish aquaculture.

He also makes a mean pineapple juice.

I’m on Bali looking at exporting organic wine from Australia to Indonesia so great to meet a fellow organic advocate on the weekend 💚

Ketut is trying to get his operation back on its feet after volcano eruptions in 2017 and 2019, covid-19 and more recently the worst flood damage in 50 years.

Well worth a visit. There are no signs when you get there but follow the Google.

We visited Side By Side organic farm as part of a day tour up the east coast.
After reading such great reviews we were quite excited to have lunch and see the farm.
Our expectations were exceeded. Lunch was amazing, a lot of it homegrown, all organic and delicious. And so much variety. I’ve never tasted corn fritters as good.
The freshly squeezed lime juice was perfect and fruit for dessert was sweet and fresh.
We visited the herb garden and learned about medicinal uses for herbs and made cinnamon tea.
The very friendly and knowledgeable Ketut caught quite a large fish for lunch too.
We fed the cows and watched newly harvested rice being threshed the old way before machinery.
The farm was so cool, breezy and relaxing we felt we could stay for hours.
All the profits go to the local village in one of the poorest areas of Karangesam to feed the children and provide their schooling
Highly recommend this organic farm.

We went there for lunch with our 2 kids who are 2 and 4 years old. We loved the experience, we fished our fish for lunch and before that we searched for the worms to fish them. Food was amazing and ketut so knowledgeable about bali but also curious to learn other cultures. As a bonus the kids went feeding the cows and they loved it. Recommend ++

This farm is such an interesting and beautiful place to visit. You are made to feel so welcome and the farm provides food for the local children. Ketut the manager enthusiastically shows you the best practices they use and you can catch a fish or pick fruit.
The meals there are beautiful.

The lunch at the farm has been a highlight of our Bali visit. We learned a lot about Ketut’s views on farming, healthy eating and the environment. We completely agree with his philosophy! The lunch had many delicious Balinese dishes prepared with fresh vegetables. We purchased some fresh, juicy mangosteen fruits to take with us. I did not bring detailed directions with me, and we had a little trouble finding the farm, but the locals gave our driver good directions once we were close. You have to walk a few minutes from the road. Thank you Ketut and Pamela!

We stayed at Side by Side for three nights in early December and loved our visit. The farm was 1 of 4 locations we stayed in Bali over our 2 week trip. We can’t say enough about Ketut and his operation. Ketut was our driver, our guide, our host, our gardening supervisor, hiking companion, etc. We spent the better part of 4 days with him learning about the farm, local attractions, people, Bali and Indonesia. He led us through rice fields, showed us how to wear our sarongs, helped us catch fish for dinner, made amazing fruit juices and served us incredibly fresh food every meal. He also allowed us to help at the farm weeding the veggie garden. The spacious and beautifully laid out accommodation served us wonderfully. We highly recommend a stay at Side by Side for anyone interested in getting a glimpse of the Bali countryside and spending time with a true champion of Bali who wants the best for its future.

We spent a couple of days at the farm in August. Ketut’s pancakes and his sister-in-law’s dinner alone worth the trip. But there is much more to discover at the farm. Sleeping in a traditional Balinese house with fireflies and the whole nature all around was an amazing experience to remember for long time once in the city again. And hiking with Ketut as guide give us the possibility to discover a lot about Balinese culture. We already miss the farm and its people (and cat).

Yesterday we visited sidebyside organicfarm near Tirtagangga. It's a wonderfull place amids the ricefields. Ketuk gave us a warm welcome and we started with one of the best meals(lunch) we had in whole Bali. After that we had an elaborate tour from Ketuk on all the different sort of medicinal herbs and plants. We could smell and taste different kinds. We loved the beautiful fishponds with healthy and (from own experience) tasteful fish. The dining-and sleeping area look really nice an cosy.
Whenever you're interested in this beautiful way of treating our planet you should pay them a visit. You can also sleep there. The only sound is the murmuring of the fishpond. For contact you can mail them( it's on their website) or phone 0812 399 5054. (Phone might not be answered straight away. Try again later). Wish you a great visit. Lucie and Henk. (The Netherlands)

Paid the farm yet another visit during our holiday in Bali, and were yet again amazed by the hospitality from Ketut and the farmers. Local kids come by to interact with us, and we all learn something from eachother. New building has come up, a learning center where local kids get a litte education, and vistors can learn about everyday life in Bali, Balinese Culture, how to make offerings and decorations etc.

Also, if you spend the night, you will sleep in good beds, in amazing surrondings.

There is a concrete path leading from the village road down to the farm, so it easily accessible too. Only a fes steps from the fields down to the farm.

Ketut gave us a tour of the farm, showing us everything they grow. Impressive!!

A visit to the farm is truly something you will remember.

It's hard to put to word our experience at Side by Side.

Ketut was absolutely lovely throughout, teaching my partner and I about their invaluable work in the community. He was friendly, knowledgable, took all the time in the world for us.. he and his sister-in-law made some seriously delicious meals. The dinner banquet there is to die for.

The place is incredibly grounding. So serene as the light fades and you get surrounded by this cocoon of forest sounds punctuated with the pin-pricks of firefly light.

Blissful. Absolutely blissful.
