At the moment the beach is very dirty, report our guests. Certainly this is partly caused by the storm that we have in the rainseason but nevertheless we cannot advice our guests to visist this beach for snorkeling. A pity that nobody takes the initiative to clean up the place.

I don’t understand why people are so exited about this place. The beach and the sea is very dirty, it seems like nobody takes care of it, even tho it is considered one of the tourist’s attractions. We saw dead chickens, a lot of wooden sticks drifting around, many plastic bags right in the water and even nappy for babies. Disgusting. A lot of annoying locals asking you to buy stuff. As for the snorkeling, it is fine just for people who are not experienced at all or if you are too lazy to go to some other island , like Gili. If u are looking for something interesting in the water do not waste ur time coming to this village. Better go to another island. It is not worth the time.

Jemeluk beach is located at the heart of Amed area, east coast side of the island.
This area indeed is a quiet place loved by travelers. The jemeluk bay is also one of the best snorkeling spot in the region.
In jemeluk bay, the reef drop-off it home to gorgeous coral formations and fish for every color of the rainbow, and it can be accessed directly from the beach.
No need to hire the boat (no need to waste your money). you could swim a bit, and you will see the beauty of underwater.
Over all, Jemeluk beach is a good place to enjoy the day.

Big beach lots of boats parked, not the greatest beach for just lounging. There are some spots though. Amazing snorkeling, reef is not as shallow as Lipah beach. Diving here is great! Just choose one of the 1000+ diving companies 😂

Was horrified when I went down to this black sandy dirty rocky beach. No space on the beach as it is full of boats. Very shabby looking beds in front of some warung. Will try and go again tomorrow as grey skies so grey sea did not help matters. Guess the fact that we live in Greece also does not help

I'm really unclear as to why people are rating this beach as the number one attraction in Amed. We were really excited to see this beach after all we had heard about the snorkelling here and how amazing the water was. The beach is pebbles with no sand, but that's not a big deal. There isn't a lot of available beach because it is all taken up with catamarans. Eager to get into the water, we were disappointed to learn that all the reef is completely dead. We saw a few pieces of free standing live soft coral and a couple pieces of hard coral here and there, but mostly broken dead coral, and brown bottom. Lots of beautiful fish trying to feed off what is left here, but it's pretty much been destroyed. Then after resting on the beach we found out that both our swimsuits and clothes had been destroyed because of hot globules of oil from the boats scattered all over the beach that we had been sitting in, putting our hands in and setting our clothes on. Garbage litters the beach and locals just toss their bottles into the closest available bush. Sad degeneration of what was probably once a beautiful area.

I would suggest you to wake up at 5.30, go to the beach to see the sunrise, then to have breakfast and to go straight for snorkeling at 8 AM, the latest is at 9.30 AM. As the fish will go deeper to the bottom of the sea after 10 AM due to the hot climate.

Jemeluk is printing snorkelling, free-diving and diving right off the beach - no boat required.
I'm a free-diver and dived Jemeluk three times in three days. There was something different to see each day. Coral and rock formations run the entire length of the bay and there is an old wreck in about 20m of water at the northern end.
There is a real underwater mailbox at Jemeluk. The Reef Check Foundation and Indonesian owned postal firm PT Pos installed the box in order to bring awareness to marine conservation.
Divers can send postcards by inserting waterproof cards into the box which is cleared daily by a PT Pos diver. Mail is then sent to recipients around the world.
The reef here at Jemeluk is extraordinary. The contrast between the black volcanic rock from Mt Agung, the brilliantly coloured coral and myriads of fish is just outstanding.

Visited Jemeluk Bay while staying in Amed for two nights. It was definitely worthwhile. Surprisingly, the snorkeling at Jemeluk was as good, and often better than at easily accessible areas of Gili Air and Gili Meno. If we would have known this earlier, we would have spent more time in the Amed region and less time in the Gilis.
As a very experienced diver, I met with a local divemaster in Amed for advice about snorkel sites. I had been considering visiting Jemeluk Bay, the Liberty wreck at Tulamben, or the Japanese fishing boat wreck further south from Jemeluk. We only had time for one site. I was advised to visit Jemeluk and was very pleased that I heeded the advice. I understand that Jemeluk Bay is now a protected habitat so the marine life is rebounding nicely from past over fishing.
We snorkeled from the beach toward the south point of Jemeluk Bay and stumbled upon the submerged temple, scuba divers, an apnea swimmer and lovely coral gardens in very good condition. The variety of tropical fish was very good but abundance was not superb inside the bay. Didn't see any turtles or large fish.
Near shore, especially near the south end of the beach, there was much flotsam and some trash concentrated by wind and waves. Jemeluk was beautifully calm and had easy entry/exit for all skill levels. I understand that a mild southerly current may prevail. We noticed no current at all.
We left our belongings at one of the warungs at the south end of the beach. We used their beach lounges with umbrellas for several hours and enjoyed some cold drinks and snacks as compensation for the security of our belongings while we were in the water.
No crowds. Jemeluk Bay was a nice place to hang out and was a very enjoyable morning/afternoon as part of our brief visit to Amed. Amed is about 1km away and has great accommodations and dining options at very low cost. Solaluna provided free transport to Jemeluk Bay.
I highly recommend Jemeluk Bay for both novice and advanced snorkelers. It's also really nice for people that just want to chill out in a great setting with some Balinese hospitality.

Hi everybody!
Last year in July, before the big earthquake in Lombok, a big tide had affected Amed area and we could barely stay on sunbeds in the warungs in Jemeluk Bay and snorkeling was not so good due to sandy water.
Anyone has been there recently? Are the warungs still providing sunbeds? How is snorkeling?
Thank you very much!

Are there any walks or treks that you can do without a guide?
Written 30 January 2017
yup offcourse you can do what you want to do by your self ...but more safety if there is one friend or local guide to walk with u ,...because in bali if you dont know the area it's very dangerous to walk alone.
the weather the forrest and the animal ...we cant predict for sure. thanks

How much to rent a lounge chair on Jemuluk Beach? We want someone to look after our stuff while we snorkel. We are hopeless at haggling!
Written 10 November 2016
Not sure if there are deck chairs there to hire, over the last three years we have left our gear outside or just inside the warang's on the beach with no problems. The staff at Warang Bali and the Rasta bar were always friendly and helpful. There is a freshwater shower outside too.

How does one get to this beach from the cruise port?
Written 1 November 2016
When we caught a Freebird Express ferry from Gili T, it dropped us off at the south end of the beach.
If you're on a commercial ferry or cruise ship, there'll be local taxi drivers wherever you land, just don't be afraid to haggle a bit :)

any recommendations for good accommodation around this area? mid-range (:

We stayed at Bali Sari Homestay, only 1km from Jemeluk bay. Walked, push biked and scootered to there regularly over 3 weeks. Loved the place, fantastic family who took very good care of us, but were never intrusive. Rooms immaculate & cleaned daily and breakfast included.
