This month I went on 1 night stay in a private house boat. Total boat sailing time was 4.5 hours in complete day. Boat condition was bad and dirty. It was unhygienic, no water in washroom basin. We were 3 persons and 1 towel was provided. No blankets only 1 bed sheet for 3 persons. AC was switched on in night but there was no remote so need to find MCB on boat to switch off and on. Lunch and break fast was fine but dinner was pathetic. Boat was docked at 5:15 at captain house. No fishing, local life experience as mentioned in iternary. I will not recommend this to anyone. I selected this house boat based on website and reviews but it was disappointing.

A must do! However make sure you get a good deal...Sometimes the prices quoted are too high until you bargain.

So I prebooked the shikara boat for 4h for 31st of December. In the email sent to me the manager named Joy Joyce advised us to take a cruize through the narrow canals where you can also visit paddifields. We paid 4800 for 4h which I guess is ok for a festive season. Anyway, instead of a small boat we got a shikara boat suited for 8ppl or so and it was just two of us. So we went on the tour and we were waiting to get into those beautiful small canals...but after few hours we were still very slowly padding through the lake. I asked the driver at least 8 times when are we going to small canals. Seriously, that was my most used phrase of the day...anyway, he didn't respond properly as his English level was not very efficient. Then I called the manager and told that it was not a tour we were promised and that we didn't even went through a small canal once..to which he replied smth like the boat is broken and hung up... after the very slow tour we decided to head back to that Sreekrishna center and ask for our money back. The manager didn't come to solve the problem but instead hid himself in the office. I called him but after arguing about the repayment he hung up again. Very unprofessional and rude. So we got 1/4 of the sum we paid from the poor reception guy who was left to deal with the matter. All in all, don't book your boat from there. Very unprofessional and unfair.

We boarded this Houseboat on 13th August 2016. We paid hefty amount of Rs.28000 for 12 members. The cruize was not good. The Houseboat halted at 2 places for 2 hours and the food was limited . The driver, cook and one more guy ate nicely giving us limited food. They halted for more time and the cruize was Worst. I don't recommend this Houseboat at all. The Manager with phone number 9847119060 (Joy Jacob) treated us very badly. They kept many rules and no privacy at all. Literally it was like being in Hostel with rules. The cook was worst and when called the Manager he didn't respond as we paid the full amount at first.

This day tour takes one back to another era and gives one a close perspective of life in the backwaters of Kerala. The ride is slow and relaxing and you can help paddle if you like. The beauty of this mode of travel is the silence and proximity to the life of the people who work in the rice paddies and along the shore. Women wash clothes and you can hear them beating their clothes against the rocks and the sound of the water in the canal. We stopped for coconut water and then later for lunch. The lunch was on a banana leaf. You really have to have an open mind for this kind of voyage. Our boat guide smiled alot and was very professional.

We hired a boat for a day cruise for 5 hrs. Initially thought 5hrs were more than enough considering heat and with a baby... but it was amazing. Much better than hiring cruise for one day package. It was all decided in hurry and Joy made it possible. He helped us get the boat and Ashok doubled up a boat driver and guide. Took us to village tour. Amazing place amazing ride. Time very well spent.

we have hired a Shikara boat for four hours till sunsewt. I found it was a better option for enjoying backwaters as well as the city.Staying full night on the boat was not very convincing for me. Experience of life time. The boat takes you through back water, around the islands. we had fresh coconut water on the boat from a village shop in route the tour. There was few restaurants which can be accessed by boat only. The boat man (Takachan) was a nice guy. He took us to all good locations and finally a place best to watch sunset. We were staying at Ramada and the boat was just at foots of the hotel.
Will recommend everybody to opt for day tour.

We hired a shikara for just an hour's cruise on the Punnamada Kayal (Lake). This is where the popular Nehru Trophy Boat Race is held annually and the cruise was excellent. The boat itself was comfortably laid-out with recliners in front and comfortable chairs, all offering unhindered all-round views. The boatman was very courteous and accommodating and gave us a lot of information. While an hour's cruise is adequate for Keralites, who are quite used to the backwaters, people from other places could opt for longer cruises to take them through some of the scenic lagoons that lead into the lake. Highly recommended for all visitors.

I reached Allepey at around 2:15pm and the manager welcomed us and confirmed our booking. I had a mallu colleague of mine who had spoken in malayalam and booked the cruise for us.
The manager was kind enough to take us to the parking area, made sure we parked in good place and took us to the boat.

On getting into the boat i felt enthusiastic, but once i started to look at the other shikara boats passing through, i felt ours was very dull. The couch was made of normal rexin and did not have plush look and feel.

The driver Rahul knew English and was comfortable talking to me. He explained 2 locations, but after that he suddenly fell quiet.
It was only us taking photos, seeing the backwaters villages coconut grooves, enjoying sunset.
