The temple is an old architectural splendor and is spread over a huge area with a large pond. The temple has two gates of entry the Eastern & Western Gate. The Western Gate has lot of shops & adequate parking. The temple is famous for the " Ambalapuzzha Palpayasam ( Rice Kheer/ Rice Pudding)", which is distributed at 12 noon. The Palpayasam needs to be pre-booked or if you are lucky you can stand in queue at 10:30 am and try and get it on the same day. The temple also has a elephant permanently inside the temple premises. It is believed that Sree Guruvayoor Appan ( Deity at Guruvayoor Temple) visits the temple every day noon for the "Ambalapuzzha Palpayasam".
Please Note :- Due to the present COVID-19 situation, entry only through Western Gate is allowed. Children are though allowed inside the temple premises but entry into the main sanctum sanctorum.

A nice, big, clean temple in typical South indian style, famous for its palpayasam.
Had a good darshan, then waited for an hour to receive the delicious palpayasam.
Do remember to wear dresses covering your kness & shoulders .. else carry a shawl.
Around half an hour away from Allepey.

We visited this temple during our holiday at Alleppey. Its a lovely temple and we went around 11 am and hence not much crowd. It was very peaceful. The paal payasam or milk kheer is supposed to be a highlight but available only at 12 and you need to get tokens in advance hence we didnt stay for this.

A wonderful temple in Ambalapuzha.
The temple is devoted to Lord Krishna.
Men should go bare chested inside the inner sanctum.
The prasad of the temple is also very famous but we were unlucky not to have it.

Very famous and ancient Sreekrishna Temple at Ambalapuzha. Very attractive and devotional atmosphere. Ambalapuzha Milk stew(അമ്പലപ്പുഴ പാൽപ്പായസം) is very famous allover the world. It's said to be the great Kunchan Nambiar (കുഞ്ചൻ നമ്പ്യാർ) lived here. His Mizhavu (മിഴാവ്) still properly protected here.

It is not appropriate to rate the place of God, but there are couple of interesting things about this sprawling Krishna Temple that a curious visitor ought to know. First is the iconic Pal Payasam (Rice Kheer), synonymous with the temple. Only limited quantity is distributed to the devotees at around noon against paid tokens. Getting that will be quite an accomplishment. Second is the temple's association with the legendary Malayalam poet, Kunjan Nambiar. The Mizhavu (a type of percussion instrument used in Koodiyattam) used by the poet cum performer is on display inside the temple. On the day I visited, an utsavam (festival) was underway and there was a huge crowd. But their self-discipline was awe-inspiring. We were treated to a scintillating performance of Thayambaka.
