There is no better way to experience Alleppey’s backwaters with their birds, temples and everyday life than with this laidback and personal kayak tour in good company. Thanks for this incredible morning!

We booked a 1500Rs morning trip which starts at 6 AM and lasts until 11 AM. Guys picked us in the morning at our homestay in Alappuzha. Then we started kayaking while enjoying the sunrise. Me, my friend and our guide, who speaks perfect english and knows a lot about local nature, politics, culture - we went through narrow canals, huge lakes and enjoyed views of locals' morning routine. We had breakfast in the middle of our trip and also 2 transfers by support shikkara boat to different locations. Great experience overall, totally recommend!

Excellent day trip with Kerala Kayaking. Samson the guide was fantastic- knowledgable about the backwaters and various birds and on a one-man mission to clean up plastic bottles floating in the river- very inspiring. The Kayaking was tough at times in the hot weather but we were rewarded with quiet backwaters the bigger boats can’t go down and some absolutely beautiful sights. Having been on houseboat before this experience was 100 times better. The backwaters are very polluted, which makes a few points a bit unfavourable and Breakfast and lunch were a little basic. The support boat was a great thing. All in all a wonderful time was had

Booked online for a four hour morning trip. An early start but we were picked up from our accomodation on time. The kayaks are relatively easy to paddle and steer and our guide was knowledgeable about the backwaters, villages and wildlife. We stopped at a local place on the banks of a canal for breakfast of coffee and Iddly (rice dumplings with veg curry). Its the earliest I've ever eaten a curry and it was delicious, so don't be afraid to try it if you take this trip (and no neither of us had an upset stomach later!). After breakfast it was back to the kayaks to explore the smaller canals and see more of the rural lifestyle. It was also a bit of an eco trip: our guide collected plastic bottles from the water for the villagers to sell for recycling. We joined in, so there was a bit of a feelgood factor that we were (in a v small way) helping the environment. It really was an interesting and enjoyable trip. We had a 'back up' boat with us all the time, which we could use if we wanted/needed a rest from kyaking. We all spent the last 30-40 minutes on the boat for our return to the starting point. The four hour trip was long enough for us, we didn't want to visit villages or see toddy making etc. It allowed us to explore the smaller canels at a leisurely pace. The kyaking wasn't too strenuous so most people would manage it without any problems. After the trip we were taken back to our accomodation too. An interesting and enjoyable trip that we felt was good value for money.

Amazing way to explore Kerala. This is easy entry-level boating. These back waters have no current, no waves, and no adverse weather conditions. What I liked best was my guide. Praveen spoke perfect English-most people in Kerala attend English schools. He was kind, funny, professional and very informative about the alcoholic beverages being made high up in the palm trees, the birds we saw and most of the vegetation. You will paddle through whole farms of baby ducklings being raised for food. You will see the villagers and the school children as they go about their daily routines from these canals that do not have car access.
Breaks were provided, although not really needed. A little table and chairs were set up in the shade and drinks, cookies and fruit were offered.
Bring a hat and sunglasses. Wear shorts and a tee shirt. There were no bugs: no flys, no mosquitoes. This is a 'walk in the park' sort of activity. Dreamy quiet and slow. My 93 year old father would have been completely able and comfortable.
My visit was right after one of the worst monsoon seasons ever. The country did an amazing job of removing mudslides and rebuilding roads and bridges. The backwaters were not impacted from a kayaking standpoint. We did get to watch crews of workers along the canals doing some clean-up and rebuilding.
If you plan ahead like I did-several months before, you can basically choose any sort of trip. I kayaked about 4-5 hours each day, with a guide and support boat. I stayed at different 'Homestays' along the way. There are rooms or apartments well removed from a heritage family home. Private outdoor showers! Authentic home cooked meals!

Kayaking is probably the best way of experiencing the backwaters and our guide Samson did a great job of showing us around. Make sure to wear plenty of sunscreen!

Samson was a brilliant guide through the backwaters. Kayaking through them was both exciting and peaceful. Samson was interesting, intelligent and entertaining. The company was also able to organise the 4hr trip for us at very last minute.

Samson is a great guide with excellent English. We did the full day trip starting at 11:30ish and could do several hours of kayaking around the backwaters. He was very informative of all of the flora/fauna and history of the backwaters. Furthermore, lunch and snacks at the end were very tasty. Would highly recommend if you're into kayaking instead of sitting on houseboats!
