We visited Arthunkal Basilica on the way back from kumarakom vacation. It's an historic pilgrimage centre and one of the oldest churches in India. The main church and the one built in 1561 are both well maintained and open for public to pray. A must visit if you are in this area and definitely one to explore if you have an interest in Christian history in India

St Andrew's Basilica, Arthunkal officially called as Arthunkal St. Andrew's Basilica , located in Arthunkal, Alappuzha district, Kerala. It is situated about 21 km from the center of Alappuzha. It is one of the famous pilgrim centres of Kerala. There is a great devotion to St. Sebastian too.Nearest railway station: Cherthala, about 8 km and Alappuzha, about 20 km. The nearest airport: Cochin International Airport, about 70 km.

This place is very beautiful and one of the oldest churches in Kerala and hold a lot of religious value for catholic community. 16th century marvel by Portuguese missionaries. Very peaceful , neat and clean well managed. People come for far away to seek the blessings. The old church is just behind the main building. Beautiful architect.

One of the Oldest and famous christian pilgrim center.There are two churches in the same compound,One is the oldest church which maintained very well and the 2nd one is the new church which is renovated(Interior)recently.Lot of devoties coming regularly.

This place is located in the district of alappuzha and very prominent among the locals in terms of religious importance, majestic architecture which would have spanned over decades. The place is very close to arthunkal beach and one can reach here via public and private transportation. you can bring your own vehicle and there are plenty of parking space available along the church's vicinity. This place is open from morning to evening but its usually very crowded during Sundays with lots of devotees and hence it would be good if you visit this place with proper planning. The buildings architecture is very old but very well maintained by the church authorities. not just the church but surroundings along the church is also very present and very clean. The place is very well suited for family and friends and Sundays would be the preferred choice to visit.

St. Andrew's Basilica, is an ancient Allepey church that we were really looking forward to visiting. Huge number of devotees were present there.A calm sea is nearby to the church. Day time visit will be more fruitful.
