We had a Day trip from Kampot to the National Park. I guess most people visiting a National Park are expecting to visit pure nature. But on the way to Bokor Mountain there is only a little secondary rainforest left. Coming to the Mountain Plateau you see only a huge construction site and terrible older buildings. There is just a buddhist temple that is worth to visit. The waterfall on the edge of the remaining firest is dry in the dry Saison. We stoppen at a renowed bin hotel with no guess. But they are building more hotel buildings, dont know for whom! They are even not charging you for the entre because they know that there is not much to visit left.

The drive up the mountain was very interesting, the jungle growth was fascinating, the monkeys on the road were cute (especially the many babies) and the road, although winding, was in excellent condition. It has been sealed since the review I read prior to my trip. On the top I preferred the historical, cultural and religious sites more than the new development. The short walk around the waterfall is worth it, but don't continue too far in to the jungle without being aware of the danger of meeting a tiger! Relax at the lake for a picnic. Lunch can be bought at the cafe near the waterfall. The view from the top is awesome.

We had a great day driving around in this park. It was foggy in places and the temperature was lower than in Kampot which we enjoyed. We visited the protector statue, the church; wat Sampov Pram Pagoda, the old casino and the new casino. We saw monkeys along the road. Since it was foggy we didn’t get to enjoy the views but it was still an enjoyable trip

Came on the recommendation of our hostel owner as it was a clear view and she said the views would be nice. Took approx 30 mins to get to the national park and probably about an hour in total to get to any of the landmarks. There are several buildings that are either new and not yet in use or old and abandoned giving the whole place a real ghost town feel. the “secret lake” turned out to be a water dam (no swimming) with some abandoned pedal boats rusting alongside. The church was dilapidated and covered in graffiti. Alright view on the hill above the church. Probably not worth the visit, but it was a nice ride up the winding roads.

Profoundly saddening to see a national park being sold off, logged and developed for pure commercial gain.
There is a huge amount of massive building and development going on here.
Shame on you all....

I have heard people talk about the 100 Rice Fields (sometimes referred to as 500 Rice Fields) but didn't know what they were talking about or where it was. I stumble across it by accident. Just past the new casino, I turned up the road before the new Wat. That took me up to Wat Sampov Pram, a beautiful old temple with some spectacular views. Coming out of that wat, I turned left, assuming it would take me back out to the main road just past the casino. Instead, it tool me a long back way toward Popokvil waterfall and, as it turned out, just past the 100 Rice Fields.
To understand this attraction, if that is what you want to call it, you need to think of how Cambodia is built. Most of the country is flat, with mountains popping up here and there and a lot of rice fields in between. This is a very large area, many acres, with big rocks jutting straight up out of the ground; a kind of microcosm of the Cambodian countryside. You can stand on a rock and feel like a giant on top of a mountain, looking down on the numerous rice fields below.
That's it. Nothing more. To be honest, the effect could be heightened a great deal if someone did some gardening. When I went the grass was high and a number of bushes were growing in places that essentially hindered the effect. If the casino, which promotes this place all the time, were to spend a few bucks to cut the grass and pull the errant bushes, this would be an interesting place to visit. As it is, it is hard to see why anyone would venture out of their way, even if it is on the way to Popokvil Falls.

This used to be one of th most stunning and exciting places to visit in Cambodia, a real adventure. Now the wonderful french colonial hotel has been clad in concreate and a monstrosity of a hotel built near by.... No respect has been paid to the legacy of this site. It's a problem in Cambodia ... And assumption of what tourists want.... This is not it... Oh and the police at the base of the road just scam tourists like its a right and like they are the smartest people on the planet..waste if time don't bother

This place is truly appalling, wholesale and wanton destruction of the environment. How they call it a national park is beyond me, more a testament to corruption, greed and how to destroy the natural environment. The historic building part is strewn with rubbish and zero maintenance the waterfall is top of the lowlights, (2000 riel to enter), although this has clearly been adjusted by human hands to look like this, although this small piece of harmony was ruined by karaoke being played at 1000db at the entrance. Moving onto the building site aspect. Of the actual finished projects I saw, some 100 flats and villas, only 4 were occupied, but hey let's builds thousands more and I mean thousands, theyve cleared the jungle wholesale and built/building massive roads, that look like scars on the landscape. Then you have the massive concrete factory, greenhouses and aircraft hanger sized storage areas They seem to have gone out of their way to be as destructive as possible, let alone consider the environment. The highlight, is the drive up there, lots of monkeys and fauna. However this will soon go the same way, given the convoys of juggernauts going up there, and if they place ever gets fully occupied, the road will never cope and the monkeys will end up roadkill. This place truly sucked at my soul, its heartbreaking.

Hi, I'm interested in Nepenthes Bokorensis, is it easy to find inside the national park ? Or is there a restricted place to find that? Thanks

I'm wondering if Phnom Bokor National Park is suitable for small children (5 and 7 years). There doesn't seem to be much there, only deserted buildings.
And then I saw the reference to big snakes ............ oohhhh!!
How long would it take to get there from Kampot - by car?
Written 26 September 2016
Hi, there isn't a great deal to 'do' at Bokor, its mostly the scenery. There are a couple of walks to do, but its mostly the old casino and church to see. The kids will love exploring the old casino. You can walk safely right through the building and onto the top balconies. One of the best things about Bokor is it's about 10-12 degrees cooler up there (a very refreshing change to the constant heat of Cambodia).
Its about an hour drive from Krong Kampot up to Bokor, and its very windy road (just in case the kids get car sick). Also, Bokor is often in the clouds, so best to go on a cloudless day (otherwise there is no view of anything).
Hope this helps. Tim.

Hi, thanks for review; we're biking up tomorrow. Was it relatively colder up there, i.e. should we bring warm jumpers/trousers?

Hi, at the end of November, it was warm too. I think the temperature was quite the same as in Kampot, just humidity was lower, so we felt more comfortable. Regards, Jakub
