It is a great park with an excellent varity of wildlife. Some of the wildlife we saw was Elephant, Lions, Hyena with cubs and Rhinos. It did take us over 5 hours to get there from Nairobi via safari vehicle.

Meru is lucky to have had some rains so the Park is lush and the animals are all there. We were luck enough to see all the Big 5 within 3 days and it is teeming with birdlife. My favourite park so far

Meru took some getting to, especially if you drive. But it's totally worth it. It is a tropical paradise of a place with all the animals you'd expect to see, and some fantastic plant species, like a 1000-year old Baobab tree. Go!

A very unique park and the Jumbos are so many and equally big. So many varieties of animals including the rare white Rhino.

I'm afraid I'm going to give quite a different review from most of the ones I have seen here.
As of Sept 2022 when I was there, Meru had had a 2 yr drought and game was very sparse.
What game was there was very skittish. In 2 full days there we had a glimpse of 2 lions before they fled into the bush. We saw no other cats.
Even a big herd of buffalo (normally pretty relaxed with tourist vehicles) began moving off as soon as we arrived. Before long, they had gone.
We had one good sighting of a rhino and quite a lot of birds. Otherwise it wasn't great.

Meru National Park was strange for us. We arrived half an hour before the gate closed, after a very long, bumpy ride from Nairobi. The gate staff were extremely efficient at processing my access requirements. Some KWS staff really struggle with the ticketing process but the team at Meru were all over it. We reserved a private campsite, although I cant remember which one.
Unfortunately we didn't get to our camp until dusk so we set up at an unfortunate time of day. We were very near the river and could hear the elephants down there frolicking. Our trail cameras captured a giraffe walking through the camp, a gannet and numerous elephants. We heard a few lions chuffing and hyenas as well.
All of this overnight activity had us believing we would see numerous wildlife during our self-drives during the day. But we saw almost nothing during the day - it was pretty funny actually. Because the second night was much like the first where we HEARD lots of animals.
I know this park has lots of animals living their best lives but we just didn't see many of them. Meru is a beautiful place to drive around, even if you cant find the animals. We enjoyed it quite a bit.

The work being done at this park is a real credit to them. Very visible and active rangers who appeared to enjoy what they have got here. We enjoyed a fabulous safari in Meru NP, seeing a wide range of game and absolutely loved the Rhino area, watching many rhino, elephant and Buffalo in one sighting. We also finally caught up with a Serval here after 30 years of waiting !

Meru is an awesome park for game viewing and landscapes. The doum palms and baobab trees look like a forest from Dr Seuss. You have the chance to see the Big Five and the Northern Five. We were short a leopard of achieving both on our safari. The park is also empty and we only saw one other vehicle over the three days we were there. So all of our sightings were private.
