Often imitated, two decades later, still in a class of our own. Locally owned and operated since 1998, A Walk in the Woods is the oldest Guide Service in the Smokies. We are the recipient of the coveted REI Top Guide Award, as well as the Travel Channel Top choice award. Since 1998, A Walk in the Wood has been your doorway to the Smokies. For almost 2 decades, we have taken over 100,000 people into the beautiful National Park on a variety of excursions from driving tours, easy gentle guided walks for families and novices, challenging adventures, to guided backpacking trips on the famous AT and more. We are the only guide service in the region where all of our guides are professionally trained naturalists, historians, storytellers and all around educators. Our guides are passionate about the natural world and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Jewel of the Parks. We can also plan your adventure, rent your gear, shuttle you and help you safely explore the world of wild edibles and medicines, tasty mushrooms, tracking, birding, salamanders and more.

Wife, teen son, teen daughter and myself joined another small family for the "Court House Rock Adventure" with Jaimie. It was a great "deep dive" into the GSMNP and just what I was looking for to get off the beaten path just a little. Taking a hike with a guide like Jaimie makes all the difference in the world. It... What a great experience we had with A Walk In the Woods. While technically all they did was shuttle us from one trailhead to another so we could hike up Mount Leconte, the information they provided along the way was invaluable. Eric, our driver, is an encyclopedia of information on the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Very cool stuff. Can't... More

We did the hidden waterfall walk with Mike. He was wonderful. He pointed out so many things that you would never have even seen while on a hike. We were able to use that knowledge the next day when we went out on our own. We hiked with two other groups. My oldest daughter was a little disappointed that we... More

My wife and I were married in Gatlinburg on 6/21/2013 and scheduled the nature walk "A Stroll Back In Time" a couple days after. I am a bit late in the review phase as I think we are just coming to terms with having to leave the beauty and peace Gatlinburg offers! (sniffles...) Our trip was absolutely magnificent! Erik led... I highly recommend this hike experience with Walk in the Wood, My wife and I had a terrific experience with Guide Samantha during our stay. We did the Natural Pools and Water Fall. As mid 50;s boomers we were a little cautious about our fitness match. But so glad we took this hike as it exceeded our expectations. The pace... More

My family and I (2 adults 2 teenagers, 5 year old and 3 year old) did the exploring nature with children with Vesna. We loved it. The kids enjoyed it and so did the grownups...and we learned quite a few new things. Vesna was awesome. My 3 year old loved it too...not much keeps her attention but she was mesmorized... More

I arranged for a shuttle pickup at Fontanta Dam Visitor Center, arrived earlier than expected. I confirmed my arrival time with "A Walk" a few hours before arriving, they adjusted their schedule and picked me up early, returning me to my car (90 minute drive). Driver ("Sam") was very professional, and very knowledgable of the area we drove through (she... More

Our second outing with walk in the woods. Family did scenic river walk. Vesna did an incredible job of mixing history and nature facts and info. Scenery was gorgeous but the real highlight was spotting a bear for an extended viewing and some great pics. Truly a rare and wonderful opportunity. Thanks walk in the woods!
