Stop here to enjoy a stunning view of the Tetons, Snake River and surrounding foliage. It's easy to see how Ansel Adams was inspired. Although it was an overcast day, we were still treated to great beauty including Fall foliage. It is easily accessible and parking is available.

Today’s Snake River Overlook is approximately the site of Ansel Adams famous 1942 photograph.
I do appreciate his work, but to me the color version is better.
I took the iconic photo. The trees have grown up so they hide the river bend, so my view was not exact.
Parking was on a narrow pull out and one walked down the path until they saw the view they wanted.
There were no restrooms here.

The overlook provides a lovely view of the meandering Snake River framed by the Grand Tetons. Truly amazing! It’s a must photo stop on the 42-mile loop. Go early to catch the morning sun.

Awesome view of the Grand Tetons and Snake River from the far side of the park. There is a pull-off on the road and it makes for a fantastic picture. You can access this spot without passing one of the spots to pay to enter the park, so technically, it's free.

One of the most beautiful, side of the road, overlooks in Grand Teton National Park is the Snake River Overlook. It is also one of the easiest to get to when driving from Moose to Moran. This is the location of one of Ansel Adams iconic photographs taken in Grand Teton. It is fun to get a copy of that photo and then try to figure out where it was taken from. Photos from the overlook are best when taken before mid day when the light is still coming from the east. As the sun begins to wester the haze begins to build and flatten the view. Unfortunately the polarizer doesn't help much because of the sun's location. I find the best time to visit the overlook is early in the morning. The contrast is good, the color is beautiful, there is no haze and there are fewer tourists. If it was stormy the afternoon and evening before, or it is really humid, the morning may also make for incredible views because of low clouds and fog. If it is cloudy, don't lament because Mother Nature may be putting on a real show at the overlook. Autumn is fantastic because of the colors from all the broad leaf trees in the valley. Sundown can also be a great time if there are clouds to capture the last light. There aren't any trails at the overlook. There is a low stone wall with lots of pretty views of the Teton Range and the Snake River below. Fido is welcome if he stays on his leash. You will often find people who will climb over the wall to try and find a better angle for the perfect photo. There really isn't one, so you might as well stay on the right side of the wall. If you have the patience, you can relax at the wall and watch rafters and canoers float by in the river and there may be a moose, a herd of elk or bison crossing from one bank to the other. you just never know. And keep an eye out for the odd golden or bald eagle soaring on the updrafts. Bring you binoculars, spotting scope or a telescope for those long views. The Snake River overlook is one of the must see view points in the park and it is so easy to get to. Try it and enjoy.

This is still an amazing spot and view. The trees have grown and covered part of the shot Ansel got in 1942. That said it's still a historic photo spot. Just looking out at the Snake River and the Tetons in the back ground you understand why Ansel picked this spot. If you don't know of Adam's photo, look it up so you can compare the view of 1942.

Beautiful scenery. A great pullout from the main road on the journey to Tetons. Take care as you drive around here - a mother bear and three cubs ran across the road in front of us as we drove just before the pullout.

We stopped briefly just to get a picture of this classic site. I'm no Ansel Adams but my picture looks just as good as his (and it's in color).
