Beautiful lake with islands. Entry to the BWCAW. Easy portage to other lakes, or just fun staying on this lake for a short trip. Outfitters with canoe rental available on Gunflint trail.

Beautiful area, gives on a typical view of the whole area. Worth a visit, half way up the Gunflint trail from Grand Marais. We often stop at the historic/rustic Trail Center restaurant for lunch. Now a friendly refreshing stop with a great view of the...More

Caught northern, small mouth, and walleye. Easy lake to navigate with lots of hidden coves that are protected when it is windy. Seems like all of the coves held nice small mouth that kept the grandson very busy and happy.

I wish the weather and fishing were better. But the lake was fantastic. For boat owners watch for rocks.

Poplar lake is easily accessible with multiple lodges and restaurants up the gunflint trail. Paddle into the Boundry Waters or motor around the lake and fish or just enjoy the scenery.

The shoreline is mainly rocky and water can be deep near shore but it is refreshing. Most of the resorts on the lake have swimming areas. Plus literally no weeds!

Are motorized boats allowed on Poplar Lake? Are there restrictions?

Response from Scott S |
Motorized boats are allowed with no motor restrictions. However lake and shoreline is very rocky so be cautious when traveling. You will see a more canoes and kayaks on the lake than motor boats most days but very scenic.
