Be sure to read the signage explaining how the Big Ditch was formed just over the Bridge to the Visior Center Parking Lot.

This is a wonder. The power of water, rushing through the middle of town carved this Big Ditch out. Then the good townspeople of Silver City were bold enough to turn it into a lovely oasis instead of filling it back in and inviting another disaster hosted by Mother Nature. Very nice walking area

If you like to relax in the morning, before the summer heat mounts, under trees overhanging a stream and with birds singing your day to life, well this is the place for you. The Big Ditch Park is an exquisite river walk with lots of benches and shade. The Ditch was once Main Street, which collapsed under severe floods at... More

Surprisingly lovely park with flowing water, cool rocks, a lush green, just at one end of downtown. Worth a visit.

How many people would think that a "big ditch" was an attraction? The one dividing Silver City is beautiful and the city is doing more to enhance walks along it.

Go ahead, take a long stroll and enjoy. We loved sitting and listening to the water and being in the shade.

nice area with a really great story of how the "ditch" became the "ditch. Nice town, some very nice restaurants and shopping. Close to many smaller town and Las Cruces (spelling) is about 100 miles away and well worth the drive. Silver City is at about 5900 feet which helps to make it comfortable in June.

The promenade was once Main Street before the big flood of 1895. They've developed it as a place to collect runoff from the rains. It does stretch for quite a distance with lots of places to sit and escape the heat. Lots of trees and native plants line the paved walkway. It is handicap accessible in most spots. We did... More

It';s really nice catching the ditch shade down in downtown Silver City. This walk has so much potential and they're always improving it. The Youth Center was hard at work with the goal of making a new section from the visitor's center that could be taken with a stroller or walker. What a perfect project for the town and great...
