This park presented an interesting element of the local history. I especially liked the mosaic mural. Take the time to read it.

The Park behind the visators center is nicely planted and full of color in April. We walked the trail and it could be great in-town hike, but trashy and an obvious place for drug use. So sad about that. Needs some attention by city to...More

It is interest about how two major floods cause the earth to make this big ditch...other than that it looks like any other ditch.

A lovely but short walk along the Big Ditch. One side is a wide walkway with benches here and there, the other is a trail that weaves around tree trunks. A surprising bit of the wild in the middle of a city. There were (homeless?)...More

I was a bit disappointed. This place has an interesting story but there is not much to see. It has great potential, if it was cleaned up.

We strolled along the "ditch" and were impressed at the town's initiative to come up with this solution to flooding. Lots of nice walks and bridges to cross.

The Big Ditch is right behind the visitor's center. Very pretty, interesting history. I can't remember if they had picnic tables, but this would be a great place for a picnic

The visitor center had a very friendly welcoming staff, then I walked down the shady trail along the big ditch. Very nice and peaceful and adjacent to the downtown area so you can park and walk to town.

As a result of poor planning the original "main" street of Silver CIty was flooded numerous times and finally relegated to the "big ditch park" status.
