We were here for the first time on Sunday, to see the remarkable Mark Rylance in Nice Fish. (He and the play were incredible.) This space is lovely: a beautiful theater where there are no bad seats and the lobby has food and beverages courtesy of Vinegar Hill House. Easy to get to, as well. Can't wait to return.

I saw the performance of "Nice Fish" with Mark Rylance, the play was great. The theater is a new venue and is an intimate space to see a performance. They have well known artists scheduled in the near future and I plan to attend again. Broadway quality, off-Broadway pricing. Easy to get to, in the "DUMBO" area of Brooklyn on the East River waterfront next to the Brooklyn Bridge. There is parking garages nearby and the area is very active with waterfront actractions and views and plenty of restaurants.

Under the Brooklyn Bridge. Great views in up and coming neighborhood. Had a snack in the lobby before the performance which was good, but service was too slow we had to eat fast, Would have enjoyed hanging ot a little more.

Our visit to St Ann’s started with a walk across Brooklyn Bridge, a pizza in one of the local restaurants and a wander around the area admiring the views and well tended area. Our experience in the venue itself was definitely that - an experience rather than a show. We saw the amazing The Jungle and right from the moment we entered we were surrounded by refugee camp setting and friendliness from staff and the cast alike. The theatre space had been completely transformed, I suspect (never having been there before!).
It was a great experience.

For 3 hours, the soul of Gillian Anderson was inhabited by Blanche Dubois in a stunning version of Streetcar Named Desire. It was a riveting performance of the character, reminding us that there are those for whom this world is too much to bear, who are driven to create their own reality amongst the rest of us rough hewn players. Tennessee Williams had to have been pleased. Ben Foster did a great job playing Stan, as did Vanessa Kirby playing Stella. The Theater in the round was wonderful, with slowly rotating set as the play was performed. This 3 plus hour tour de force must have been exhausting to perform, with one intermission but no breaks....costume changes...scene transitions...set changes all took place on the open set. Gillian Anderson was absolutely compelling, and must have been totally exhausted by the effort....though her character was flawlessly portrayed. An unbelievably good production-great theater.

Well worth a subway ride from midtown for this wonderfully performed show, way off broadway, Gillian Anderson gave a tear jerking performance of Blanche, for a 3 & half hour show moved quite well, along with the revolving stage.
The warehouse itself is beautifully renovated as well.

A wonderful restoration and renovation of an old warehouse. The theatre and accompanying spaces are beautifully executed. Comfortable lobby and restroom. Comfortable seats and sight lines in performance space. A critical addition to Brooklyn's cultural scene and the Brooklyn Bridge Park area.

What a great space, location and view from this location. The materials used inside are also very clever.
The only downside is a bad glass of chardonnay is $11

Although most people might think that Broadway is the center of theater in New York City, the real center for exceptional theater experiences is to be found in booming Brooklyn. notably at several venues in the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and St. Ann's Warehouse. After two years of construction, St. Ann's has just moved into its new permanent home in a restored tobacco warehouse just under the Brooklyn Bridge. And a stunning new home it is--a perfect setting for the many remarkable productions St. Ann's brings to the city. If you haven't gotten to a production here yet, by all means do.

SAW produce high quality theater from all over the world. For moving, meaningful, often challenging art, including plays, multimedia, puppetry, dance, and music, they are a treasure. Their new home on J street is just as spacious and flexible, but even more convenient, with a fine coffee shop next door. I could not recommend any producing theater more highly. Check them out when you plan your next NYC trip.
