I booked the "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" book tour with Ray's Food and Walking Tour. Our tour guide was Michael and it was a fantastic experience. There were 6 of us and we all read the book leading up to our tour and Michael took us to so many locations referenced in the book. Not only was he knowledgeable about the book but there was so much history to everything that he shared with us. We all loved the tour and talked all the way home about how it couldn't have been any better. Michael was personable and interesting and perfect for our group of ladies excited to be out touring Brooklyn for the day!

To celebrate my mom's 85th birthday. I hired Michael to organize a tour of Ellis Island for my family. I had initially watched Mike's virtual tour of Ellis Island and was so impressed, I reached out to him about a live tour. He was a pleasure to work with and well organized which made everything easy. He made all the arrangements so all we had to do was to show up. Mike knows Ellis Island like the back of his hand and clearly the history of this historic place has meaning for him. We all learned a great deal about Ellis Island and immigration and enjoyed Mike's warmth and easy manner. If you want to tour Ellis Island, you can't do better than having Mike as your guide.

Our book club contacted Ray to see if he would put together a walking tour of Williamsburg, Brooklyn based on the book, "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn". Historian, humorist, and incredibly nice guy, Ray immediately got to work and researched the streets, churches, junk shops, bridge, libraries and homes that were once author,Betty Smith's inspiration for her incredible book. Taking the tour with Ray brought the book alive in a way no book discussion could. A special added treat was standing on street corners listening to Ray recite passages from the book as current Williamsburg hipsters passed us by. Ray even promised that if we find another NYC novel he would make it come alive for us with a new walking tour! I highly recommend Ray's Food and Walking Tours!

It was a cold and wet Saturday which was probably the reason that my hubby and I were the only guests on the tour! Our guide Mike was wonderful and the tour was at a comfortable pace with plenty of opportunities to get some wonderful photos. Mike had a great knowledge of the history of the area and showed us lots of photos of how the area once looked to compare to the present. The area looked beautiful in the fall weather, with lots of pumpkins outside houses ready for the holidays. It was really worth joining a tour rather than exploring alone as we learned much. The tour finished with a taste of Brooklyn pizza and chocolate at Jaques Torres - fabulous. Will definitely take another tour with this company on our next trip to NYC.

Mike, the owner of the company, gave our food tour. We walked through Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO. Mike was friendly, knowledgeable and considerate. We sampled bagels, falafel, pizza, chocolate, pumpkin desserts and cookies with hot chocolate. I would recommend Mike and this tour company and would be interested in his other tours.

I've been to NYC many times but never to Brooklyn, so I thought this would be a fun way to get an overview. It was perfect! Mike has a ton of knowledge about Brooklyn and NYC , food and culture, architecture, the whole 9. The food was amazing and we were stuffed - but managed to find a way to stuff it all down. We had bagels (about 1/4 each of 2 flavors), falafel, 2 full slices of pizza (margarita and white), whoopie pie (to die for), and frozen hot chocolate.

All in all a great afternoon in Brooklyn!

We did the Brooklyn Height's and Dumbo food tour and had a great time. Mike, was our tour guide and did a fantastic job. A New York native, Mike did an excellent job detailing the history of Brooklyn and the borough's recent renaissance. Mike was personable, relatable and seem to really enjoy his role as our guide. We consider ourselves fortunate to have been on his tour. We enjoyed all of the food stops and sites along the way. Our family of four all considered the tour one of the highlights of our trip to New York. Afterward, we caught the ferry up to Williamsburgh to get a feel for a different section of Brooklyn. A great day exploring and the food tour was critical to making our day a success. We highly recommend!

We visited NYC for the first time in Sept 2015 and like most people had a list as long as my arm of places we wanted to visit, including Brooklyn. Unsure of where to start and only having 1 day we booked onto Ray's food tour! We booked very last minute (11pm the night before) and were sent quick and clear directions of where to go. Mike greeted us and two others on the tour and right from the start was friendly and came with food! The tour is a must in my opinion for seeing and understanding the history of Brooklyn. We ate bagels, falafel, whoopie pies, frozen hot chocolate, pizza (the best in NYC) and saw so much we wouldn't have seen without doing the tour. I'd highly recommend it if you need a starting point for seeing Brooklyn. We continued our day to Coney Island and then walked back over the Brooklyn Bridge! Perfect Brooklyn day all thanks to Mike (and the food of Brooklyn)!

I recently went on Ray's Brooklyn Heights tour. This has always been one of my favorite neighborhoods in NYC but I decided to revisit it recently through the eyes of a professional tour guide and see if I could learn and experience anything new. Let me cut to the chase: Ray did not disappoint. We strolled through some fantastic side streets, tasted some delicious pizza, chocolate, and coffee, and revisited some of the most important historical and cultural legacies of the borough. I knew a lot about Brooklyn before the tour, but there's no way to enrich history than to actually walk it with someone as knowledgeable as Ray. He can recite Walt Whitman's poem "Crossing Brooklyn Ferry" by heart for goodness sakes!

This is a not-to-be-missed experience, either by someone new to the city, or by someone, like me, a native New Yorker, looking to expand their horizons and get to know the city on a deeper level. And have a lot of fun doing it.

We were two couples in our sixties; the two guys had lived in Williamsburg in the 1950s, and for us this was partially an introduction to the new "hip" Williamsburg and partially a return to the decidedly unhip (but still thriving) Williamsburg of childhood memory. Ray's tour struck a proper balance between the two faces of this great neighborhood, and Ray himself was both knowledgeable and engaging. The tour was extremely well thought out, and was thoroughly enjoyable in every respect. Given the quality of the food choices, which were varied and excellent (including the leanest pastrami sandwich Ad Hock Traveller has ever had), the tour is a bargain at the price.
