This three-hour cruise will take you into the heart of Alaska and introduce you to a family who has made the rivers of Alaska a way of life for five generations. You will see a bush floatplane takeoff alongside the boat, visit the home and kennels of the late four-time Iditarod winner Susan Butcher and see her champion sled dogs in action. Be immersed into the ancient Athabascan Indian culture when our Alaskan Native Guides take you on a personalized tour of the Chena Indian Village.

The trip started with a float plane taking off, circling the boat and landing beside us. The pilot spoke to us over the boat's speaker system. Farther down we saw Susan Butcher's home. Her husband still lives there and trains huskies for the Iditarod. He spoke to us and demonstrated the dogs power and training as they pulled him on... More

This attraction only starts as a Riverboat ride! Help yourself to complimentary (and delicious!) blueberry doughnuts and coffee to enjoy while you glide past Chena River river-side homes. The Captain narrates the journey, and you'll see a fun bush pilot airplane demo not long after leaving the docks. Before the trip is over you've sailed past a working dog-sled kennel,... More

The Riverboat tour was exciting and educational. The narrator was informative and entertaining. I loved the interaction between land and river. We also had the pleasure of meeting the founder. The Indian village was awesome. Would definitely recommend this Riverboat ride to everyone.

We started with a hot lunch in the meal room and explored te gift shop before boarding the Discovery. We were taken down the Chena River. We were given a demonstration of dog sledding and visited an Indian village. Remember to go to the 40 below room to experience true cold.

We started with all you can eat lunch in Discovery Hall, which was could accommodate any dietary restrictions and also delicious. Once on the boat, if weather is not good, head for third level and sit on the port side(left) for best views of what's to come. We were treated to a float plane taking off and landing, demonstration of... More

Wonderful boat ride and village excursion was very educational and exciting. Loved watching the dogs pulling 4 wheeler around the track. Hear how they don't waste any of salmon. Wonderful for young and old of all ages.

We really enjoyed this boat tour on the sternwheeler Discovery! The narrator was very informative and entertaining and we got an extra bonus when the boat docked for about an hour at the site of a recreated Athabaskan Indian village where we witnessed several excellent demonstrations of their culture narrated by two young adult descendants of this tribe. We found... More

Very friendly and knowledgeable crew. The ship guide talks to folks along the way that are connected to the ship's speaker. The tour of the village was very interesting.

I enjoyed this the most while in Fairbanks. Narrator on river boat was informative and entertaining. Stop at the Iditarod dog training facility was fascinating. Stopping at the native village was very enlightening. Loved everything about it.
