    A Bit of Everything
We spent a very enjoyable and educational afternoon at the museum, which has a bit of everything Alaskan - contemporary art, native art, archeology, history, natural history, and several half hour movies on various related themes. The architecture of the building itself is quite unusual and its location offers an unobstructed view over the city. Ending the day watching a spectacular sunset from the museum was a nice bonus.

    Beautiful inside and out
Lovely morning visit. I absolutely loved this museum. It gave a well rounded view of the different regions within Alaska. Large collection of educational materials. Even learned that there are butterflies in Alaska. Of course I had to take a selfie with Otto. I enjoyed being able to feel the different pelts of animals native to Alaska. I particularly enjoyed the art on the second floor. "The outhouse", one of the art installations, on the 2nd floor is absolutely comical. I and a few other visitors just stood there giggling for the longest time while wandering around the outside and then of course had to step in to take silly photos. The museum is on the public transit route if you didn't rent a car. There is a coatroom, which I appreciated as I had on snow bibs and subzero coat and mittens. There are lockers in the coatroom if you prefer to lock things up.
Thanks for your review! We are so glad that you enjoyed the museum. A selfie with Otto the bear is always a must when visiting!

Nice hidden gem to showcase, local and regional history
We had a couple hours to kill before heading to the airport and decided to stop at the museum. I am so glad that we did, I took a 10-year-old child and we had a blast. A lot of really interesting things to see and a lot of things to learn about Alaska and the native cultures. They had dinosaur from the area as well as a lot of native artwork. Well, the museum is not huge we found after several hours we needed to hurry to go catch our plane. They also had a small children’s discovery area, my son is too old for it, but it looked awesome for younger children.
Thanks for visiting! Glad you enjoyed your time here!

    Worth a visit
My wife and I visited the museum while visiting our son in Fairbanks. It's a small, but very nicely done museum that shows the animals and culture of each region of Alaska. Definitely worth a visit. Like a lot of buildings in Fairbanks, it's really hot inside. Wear layers and use the coat room.
We are happy to hear that you and your family enjoyed your visit!

Fabulous museum and learned surprising things
Fascinating museum. One exhibit is the 34000 yr old remains of a steppe bison killed by an American Lion...in Alaska! Learned a lot about natural history and culture of Alaska. Highly recommend

    Essential History Lesson About Alaska
Visited April 2023. It is not a large museum in scale, but is densely packed with fascinating nuggets of Alaskan history. The exhibits themselves are very high in quality; equal or better to many major city museums. One can easily spend an entire afternoon here to absorb all that is shown and explained. We arrived at 4pm relying on the incorrect museum hours posted here (it closed at 5:30, not 7pm), and wished we had more than the 90 minutes available to us. It rounded out our Alaskan adventure with an essential history lesson about this less understood state.
Thank you for visiting the museum, we are so glad you enjoyed your visit! We are so sorry you had the incorrect hours, our summer hours began on May 21st. We hope you get to visit again soon!

    Nice museum
A lot of good information about Alaska’s history. Several great exhibits to look at. A little pricy, but it’s a good stop if the weather isn’t so good. Plus a great view of the snow capped mountains.
Thank you for your review and visit. The museum is a great location in Fairbanks to view the Alaska Range.

    Very Nice Museum
We passed a very enjoyable and informative couple of hours here. The museum is very manageable in size. The exhibits on Alaskan history, nature and culture were excellent and fun. The art gallery upstairs had a lot of great pieces and was very well presented. Definitely worth a stop if you have the time while in Fairbanks!

    Very Interesting and Beautiful Exhibits
We were pleasantly surprised how the exhibits were beyond our expectations. From the Jurassic skeletons to the wildlife of Alaska and indigenous peoples history, a very impressive array of exhibits here. Definitely worth a couple of hours to visit.
We appreciate your visit and feedback. Most visitors do spend about 2 hours touring the museum.

    Best museum about Alaska
You can not miss this museum if visiting central Alaska. Their exhibition on the origins and nature of The Last Frontier is wonderful. The best place to learn about Alaska in the whole state. The view from the museum to the mountains is beautiful and the architecture of the building is by itself worth visiting.
Wow, this is the best review! Thank you for visiting the museum and sharing your experience.

Lots to look at. Give yourself 2 hours to briefly see it all. 1 hour only got us the bottom floor. Paid parking is with the kiosk and takes coins or cards.

A very unique and informative museum of the North! Located on the hilltop of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, on the college campus grounds. But tourist and locals a like go to experience and enjoy this museum. The history, the ancient fossils, and artifacts were neat. Overall a must stop when in Fairbanks.

Great small museum with a variety of exhibits. Good display of art pieces. I am not a great fan of museums, I am glad my friends made me come. I loved the exhibit from the book Into The Wild.

With lack of anything better to do, this was ok for a rainy boring day. Luckily it's not that expensive. The museum part was okay but there wasn't a ton in there I was impressed with. If you've been travelling in Alaska for some time and have had great tours with guides, there wasn't much more this museum could add. However, my husband and I loved the art museum on the second level. We wish there had been more art and this part of the museum made the visit worthwhile.

We heard a lot about this one and decided to give it a look. This one is different because it has a focus that parallels the university research. Well done displays and also the artwork gallery.

Oh, my! What a wonderful museum! Fully accessible (I'm in a wheelchair), beautifully laid out, filled with details and information, utterly gorgeous ... and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable and helpful! We could have stayed for hours longer; only exhaustion drove us out! Detailed for adults, with enough videos and child-friendly displays for the younger folks ... cannot recommend this highly enough! Allow several-several hours, at least!

The museum is not very big, but it is full of Alaskan history, culture and animal life. I learned a lot when visiting this museum. It also has a shop where you can buy some souvenirs to remember the place. I highly recommend it.

I love natural history museums and this one was great. I loved how close exhibits were so I could really see details. And there were displays that you could touch. They had such a wide range from flora to dinosaurs to historical artifacts to art. We were there for two hours but could have stayed longer. Our kids were not with us but they had a great family section for kids to play with objects and read.

ACTUALLY VISITED JUNE 2019. However, my review was sitting in DRAFTS rather than being posted. My mistake, I guess, but since I took the time to write a review after visiting, I wanted to post it anyway. Here is what I wrote at the time of my visit:

We took our time and enjoyed this museum in about 2 hours. I would recommend allowing 2 to 3 hours if you read everything. There are several parts to this museum. The main gallery is downstairs and it divides Alaska into five parts and shows animals, artifacts, and other interesting items by each section of the state. Look for “Otto” when you enter this part ...you cannot miss him! There was another smaller exhibit on the first floor as well. The Alaskan Art gallery is upstairs...either climb a lot of stairs or take the elevator. If you go up by the elevator, it is the third floor. Many people enjoyed the Alaskan outhouse exhibit there. This area, as well as the entire museum, is a nice size to enjoy without feeling overwhelmed. I felt the museum was well priced. There is also a gift shop and a snack area. You will also pay to park, but it was $3 for 4 hours (you can do a shorter time for less). The parking is paid by cash, card, or app. Based on my visit, I would recommend a stop here.

This is a world class museum that exceeded our expectations. I’ve visited many of the worlds famous museums and this one holds its own! The facility is outstanding, modern and well situated on the campus of U of Alaska. The re is an incredible view from this vantage point. Inside visitors can see artifacts, taxidermy animals, and educational displays from the different regions of Alaska. They have covered everything from prehistoric animals, indigenous people, the natural resources here, historical events, and have samples of so many natural and man made objects. In addition there is an art gallery section featuring Alaskan artists who whorl in a variety of mediums and themes. If you visit no other Fairbanks attractions, this one should be the activity you choose. Parking is in the back. Lovely gift shop and small cafe too.
