- jinxminxTakoma Park, Maryland381 contributionsbeautiful well-located parkI mean, you need a park when you're visiting a city, yes? someplace to stroll around and people watch and picnic. Forsyth Park is a long rectangular park. There is the part with the fountain, where you go to take selfies, and then an old parade ground lower down. This part is lined with trees filled with Spanish moss, like a lot of Savannah. It's a good place for photos. Also, the Sentient Bean coffee shop and Brighter Day Health Foods are right down at the bottom of the park, so you can grab something and then go have a picnic. When we were up at the fountain end, we saw a couple of people making palmetto frond roses. We tried to steer clear of them so we wouldn't have to buy one but in the end this guy buttonholed us and we got stuck. He gave us a good spiel with some touristy information. He also told us that palmetto fronds soaked in salt water could make a bullet proof vest, which sounded dubious. Anyway, I didn't have any change and I ended up giving him $20 for his time and the palmetto frond rose, which is still in the back of my daughter's car, aging well.Visited July 2019Written 28 January 2020
- courtd323Painesville, Ohio36 contributionsGorgeous Park!Whether you want to stroll through the park, pack a picnic, or just take in the beauty of this park in the middle of downtown I highly recommend! Beautiful fountain & area. It was neat to see the local SCAD students that were selling their unique pieces of art in the park, the nice part was they were not pushing or interactive unless you approached them, you were able to observe their art and talk to them/purchase only if desired. Very tasteful. The trees in this park are breathtaking & when we went for valentines weekend there were a decent amount of people, locals walking their dogs, students, and kids playing at the park but not overly crowded which was nice! 😊Visited February 2020Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 February 2020
- markwake717Hershey, Pennsylvania218 contributionsBeautiful ParkWe enjoyed our visit to Forsyth Park last week. That day, there were vendors in the park, selling fresh produce and flowers and all kinds of foods. The fountain is beautiful. The Confederate monuments provide hours of conversations with the kids: "Should we be remembering people who fought against our country?" "What were they fighting for?" Great conversation starters.Visited June 2020Written 20 June 2020

This park is very nice. They were having a farmers market on the day we went and it was hard to find parking. Took us a good 20 minutes driving the area to find a spot.

The trees and fountain are beautiful. I visited on a weekday morning. There were people walking or jogging mostly around the exterior of the park. There were also people playing tennis and basketball. Parking in the lot seemed to be free. I walked in the interior parts of the park and it wasn’t very crowded. I was able to take photos without lots of people in the background. I saw a few potentially homeless people including one laying down and wrapped in a sleeping bag or something. I also saw a woman alone doing yoga. I didn’t feel unsafe at all. The fountain was great, but I loved the amazing trees the most.

Savannah’s Best Treasures! Beautiful park and fountain. Lots of shade to hide and be cool from the blistering heat. Great place to just relax.

The highlight of this park is the beautiful backdrop of the fountain for photos - it's quite romantic. Went on a Wednesday afternoon in July and although it wasn't as busy as o thought it'd be, it was quite hot out. The best time to take the photos was early in the morning when I went back the following day at 7am just after sunrise.

Again a little underwhelming for me.
On the Saturday we were there the farmers market was on in the morning which made it more than average but without it there wouldn’t have been a huge amount to see.
As city parks go this wouldn’t even feature in my top 10.

Forsyth Park was a great green area and the fountain was pretty. However, I thought it would be a little bigger! We had a nice time exploring the areas beyond the fountain too like the playground and Civil War monument.

Forsyth Park is iconic and if you are traveling in Savannah one of those spots that you are expected to see. The fountain was purchased for $2,000 by mail order and has been several different colors. It is a very pretty little space.

Hi! I want to run in this park early in the morning around 6 am or 7 am while it is still dark by myself on a upcoming trip. I am a 30 yr old female/ is it safe to do that?

I'd contact the City to confirm however I suspect that a small party gathering would be fine. Have fun!

I notice some mention quite a bit of criminal activity. Mace is available for about $20, do many visitors carry it?

I guess I disagree with this statement. We live here and walk the park all day and night.
It is like any city, don’t be stupid. Take care to walk in the lights. Be polite if someone approaches. Our folks here are very kind and understanding that people might give some change if they have it but most wont.
BUT, as for CRIME.....wrong city. Forsyth Park is patrolled day and night.
Who ever made this statement should be ashamed of themselves.

Do you recommend carrying mace? We are planning a March trip.

We were super save there with 2 small kids .. Stay in the well populated areas. We even staid in a more run down area and we gad no issues whatsoever. Felt super safe ... just be a nice respectful visitor and I am sure thus place is a southern gem.

When do they turn on the sprinklers at the main stage?

The splash pool usually gets turned on in mid to late June. There are also splash sprinklers at City Market
