The SCAD Museum of Art was founded in 2002 as part of the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. The museum's collection of more than 4,500 pieces includes works of haute couture, drawings, painting, sculpture, photography, prints and more. The SCAD Museum of Art is a teaching museum, serving Savannah College of Art and Design students and as well as members of the community and other visitors. A focal point is the Walter O. Evans Center for African American Studies, a multidisciplinary center for the study, understanding and appreciation of African American culture, art and literature. It is complemented by the André Leon Talley Gallery, named for the Vogue contributing editor and SCAD Board of Trustees member. The museum also features a 250-seat theater, a terrace and outdoor projection screen, a conservation studio, a museum café, as well as a 12-foot-long orientation touch table. An 86-foot tall steel and glass lantern welcomes visitors and elegantly redefines the Savannah city skyline.

We were really looking forward to seeing the latest exhibit, but for the first time we could hardly wait to leave. The docents are students and are usually very discrete and helpful. This time there was a blond woman assigned with a tall gentleman ......More

The exhibit is very interesting. We had never heard of him. Apparently he was quite successful starting in his 30’s. Other African American artists are displayed with also with notes by him as to what he admired about their work. Also a great exhibit by...More

SCAD student was our docent and learned not just about the museum and art but also about the school and programs. Give yourself about an hour.

We discovered this museum while driving through Savannah. The special exhibit about Jacob Lawrence was worth the admission to this small but well curated museum. Very worthwhile. I believe the exhibit is up until February 2018.

Small and could use more exhibits. So much to see in Savannah I would pass on this one and do another. Person at front desk did not seem very familiar with what was available on the second floor so just walked up and back down.

I agree that this is a good art museum for families-not just galleries of paintings. That said, some twelve year old boys might not find this as interesting as other outdoor activities in the area.

I don't recall the price of admission. The museum is open to the public, no SCAD connection is necessary. They have student docents who approach you if you look bewildered and have questions, and they're a great resource... More
