My family was entertained. From my oldest one that was actually interested in reading and learning about the fort to the younger boys who were more interested in playing in the flooded areas. We went in July/August after heavy raining. A lot of the fort...More

This is a must visit if you are in the Savannah area. Sadly, this fort is not owned by the National Parks Service, which means it is all privately run. Everyday they shoot off a cannon and go through all the procedures involved. We also...More

Site has been a fort since Revolutionary War times. Brick fort is from War of 1812 and has been nicely restored. Volunteers do a reenactment twice a day including live fire of a canon. School age children will particularly enjoy being included in the firing....More

We had a lovely stop at Old Jackson Fort. We were keen on learning more about the American Civil War. We observed a girl scout troop earning badges by participating in the firing of the cannon. The #Sargent First Class" guide was a great storyteller...More

Easy to walk through, very reasonable and enjoyed the historic walk. The highlight of the day is the cannon fire.

The visit to Old Fort Jackson is not one of the overhyped attractions of the Savannah area. However, the buildings and artefacts on display evoke a period of military developments in the 18th and 19th centuries. The undoubted highlight is the informative show put on...More

If you love history as I do, you cannot miss this place. They do a fantastic job with the kids in demonstrating the use of the cannon. My kids are older and loved it, but I saw some small children that were having a blast.

It’s fairly close to the historic section of Savannah. It’s probably a 10-15 minute drive, mostly along the same road. Signage could be a bit better so keep your eyes out. Once you turn left off the main road, the fort is... More

Cannon firing presentations include a history of the site and its significance. When kids visit, we try to make our programming as interactive as possible, including mock drill and marching.
