Description:

The Massie Heritage Center should be your first stop in Georgia's first...

The Massie Heritage Center should be your first stop in Georgia's first city! Massie provides the best orientation for your visit with a 3D model of Savannah's entire Historic District, including three laser-lit narratives of the city's history projected onto the model. Massie's six exhibit rooms inside the historic 1856 Greek Revival school house offers visitors the unique opportunity to learn about Savannah's many architectural styles, the earliest inhabitants of the Georgia coast, the historic preservation movement in the city, and what school was like in the 1800s inside our authentic heritage classroom. We are located on beautiful Calhoun Square, Savannah's only architecturally original square, at the corner of Abercorn and Gordon streets. We look forward to seeing you!

If you are a teacher you will love this place. It was so much fun just to see how it used to be. It gives you a new appreciation for how things are done now.

We went to Savannah today and went on the Trolley tour. This was an add on to our tour and well worth it. Since we were from New Jersey we tried to get alot in a few hours. Then drive back to our Hotel in by Hilton head, Sc. Well the first floor of museum explained how Savannah got established... More

Very dull and disappointing. Left the museum after 5 minutes. I would recommend skipping. Disappointed

Very interesting stop on our Trolley Tour! Center highlights the history, culture and architecture of Savannah. The second floor is an old school house with old books, old-timey clothes you can try on and even a dunce hat you can wear! The maritime display was excellent as was the display of Savannah's amazing architecture.

Although it is a place of interest , the only thing I found of real interest was the actual classroom , where someone was showing some younger children what differences there between now and then . I suppose if you are doing the hop on/off it's worth stopping off at .

I stopped here from the trolley tour. I wasn't able to see all because a local school was having a class trip in three of the rooms. The laser show in the main room was interesting. Would i suggest to pay to see? The answer is no, unless you are in the education field. You can learn from the trolley... More

There was a lot of information included in the self guided tour. Each room had plenty to read and absorb about the history and architecture of Savannah. Children would especially enjoy the schoolroom and the old timey clothing to try on. Definitely worth a visit.

This was a neat place to stop and kill some time. Staff was very eager to help and talk to you about the center. They have a map of the city that is a must see!

From a interactive display about the Savannah Historic District, to the Native American history of Savannah, this center offers a wide range of information about Savannah. The historic school room is a must visit to get a glimpse of Savannah's history, but we really enjoyed the maritime display and Savannah architecture history and styles exhibit. Add this stop to your... More
