Laid out in 1837, Madison Square is surrounded by historic Gothic, Romanesque and Greek Revival structures, such as the Sorrel Weed (c.1840) House as well as St. John's (c.1853) Episcopal Church. The square has beautiful live oaks, attractive walkways, various historical markers and a center statue to William Jasper who was killed at the siege of Savannah in 1779. Great area of town to walk around and absorb the beauty.

This is another beautiful park like square in the Historic District of Savannah. This square is named for President Madison. A memorial statue for Sergeant Jasper is in the center.

I visited Madison Square several times during my visit to Savannah in June 2021. In the center of the square is a statue of Sergeant Jasper - a hero from the American Revolutionary War. Also located at or near Madison Square are the Green-Meldrim House which served as the headquarters of General Sherman during Sherman's March to the Sea, the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) store and exhibits and the E. Shaver Bookstore. There are historical markers for Sherman's March to the Sea and Sergeant Jasper. Madison Square was one of my favorite squares in Savannah.

The square is named after President Madison. In the center of the square is the William Jasper Monument, an 1888 work by Alexander Doyle memorializing Sergeant William Jasper, a soldier in the siege of Savannah who, though mortally wounded, heroically recovered his company's banner. Locals sometimes refer to this as Jasper Square, in honor of Jasper's statue.

Lined by a beautiful historic church, sweeping Spanish moss trees, benches & flowers! A monument stands to honor James Madison & easily located in the heart of downtown. A wonderful place to stop & enjoy the shade when it’s warm!

We walked through Madison square while walking through Savannah. There's so much to see, and it was a great place for a break, to sit on a bench and have an ice cream cone. There is a monument in the center to Revolutionary War Sargent William Jasper. I would recommend the walk through all of these beautiful squares and remembering those who fought for our freedom.
