Thanks to the history lesson my husband and I got from our Segway guide, we know that Madison Square was named after James Madison, our 4th President of the USA. We also found out that it dates back to 1837, when Savannah's squares were being laid out in the city and the statue in the Square is of Sergeant William... More

This is a park to read all of the plaques and memorials. They tell the story of not just Savannah, but of America. Landscaping is tremendous.

Find a bench and sit a spell and enjoy Savannah history and architecture at its best. On the west side of the square is the beautiful gothic-style home of Charles Greene, most well-known for being General Sherman's headquarters during the Civil War. On the north west side is the Sorrel-Weed home, a combination of Greek Revival with a touch of... More

We visited Summer 2916. This square is under construction / renovation so not much there this trip. The Savannah historical district Squares are, in general, a bm b eat walking tiur. Each is a bit different and a great place to sit down for a bit and people watch.

Each square so different, they are a great tour if you review the history and mapping of them. This square has some great surrounding stops as well bordering it.

Laid out in 1837, this square was designed to honor the legacy of President James Madison. The grove of stately oaks and intricate web of Spanish moss provide a secluded spot to reflect on the beauty of the Historic District of Savannah while sitting on one of its numerous benches. The Green-Meldrim House and St. John's Episcopal Church on its... More

This is another square to add to the list. Take out a map and try to go to all of them. It's a great way to walk the city. They all are beautiful.

On a stroll down Bull St. And and yet another Green space area (Square) we came across and as the many others squares we have been able to find a lot of history
