One of many picturesque squares in Savannah, it's the place where the "bench" scene in Forrest Gump was shot. Across the street is a funky coffee shop, with the Six Pence British Pub nearby.

Chippewa is one of Savannah's larger squares with plenty of room for dog walkers, tourists and running children. It's famous for its prominent placement in Forrest Gump. It's frequented by locals and tourists and is a great place to stop and stay a piece.

When you link a walking tour of numerous squares together you have a very enjoyable and interesting time. Of course, this is the Gump of all squares and other than tourists looking for the "lost bench" it is similar to many of the other squares. The green space is nice and the buildings around the square are very interesting. The... More

Our niece really wanted to visit and take a photo in the square where the opening of Forrest Gump opening was filmed. Our timing couldn't have been better as Forrest was arriving just as we were searching for a suitable location for said photo. He was darling, in full character and happy to oblige for a photo.

We passed right by Chippewa Square, not knowing it was the Forrest Gump landmark, and had to walk back to see it. There's nothing that indicates anything about the movie. No sign, no plaque, not even a bench. The bench was placed here for the movie only and then moved. The location is right by the Chippewa Square and One... More

This is where Forest Gump waited for the bus. The bench is not there, it's in the Savannah History Museum. As with all of Savannah squares, they are well kept, clean and safe.

We enjoyed visiting the whole area and found this to be another great square. We knew it was where the scene from "Forrest Gump" was filmed, but didn't notice any particularly touristy markers. Another nice spot in the area, and with the notoriety of being a scene in a famous movie.

It has been many years since this film was released but people were questioning our guide if this was "the place". I love the historical squares of Savannah and it is sad this is all people seemed interested in here. Of course coming from "Hollywood" we expected plaques all over. Nice that Savannah resisted it.

It is again so difficult to distinguish Squares in Savannah. They are all really great and Chippewa Square is no different. Yes, each Square has a story to tell. The preservation, the care, the beauty of the sculptures and grounds says a lot about Savannah as a City. It is a must see.

Chippewa Square is one of the many beautiful ones. If you're looking for art students playing music or selling their artwork, or to catch snippets of history tours or just plain people watch, this is a great one. It's a good midpoint to the river and Forsyth Park, when walking along Bull Street.
