We took the short dive down here to check it out. We were impressed about the restoration and how you are able to visit inside of the buildings. It's November, but the weather was very nice for the walking you'll have to do. It's somewhere we'd like to visit again.

Really interesting historic site that has been well restored. There is a lot of walking (it is on the flat though) and not a lot of shade. You cannot buy food or drink so take plenty of water with you particularly if you are going in the heat of the summer. There is a very good visitor centre that sells... More

A lot of history on one site. Do be prepared to walk. Many many buildings and they have done a great job of restoring and refinishing the buildings. Not all buildings are restored but there a lot that still remain. The fort was in use for many decades so a lot of stories there.

Walking around the partial buildings and a couple of full buildings was kind of a step back. The atmosphere is there if you imagine what it was like in that time period. My husband is a real history buff...this is one stop he really enjoyed

Fort Laramie, previously named Fort William then Fort John, was a 19th century trading and frontier post located near the Laramie River on the approaches to the Rocky Mountains. Originally a post for fur trading and a primary stopping point on the Oregon Trail it was purchased by the US Army in the mid 1800’s to protect wagon trains of... More

Love this place...it's history, preservation, its story is the story of the west...great ghost stories like the lady in green at the fort...neat place for kids to see and feel the history in every wall, rampart, and building. Here the walls can talk!!! You just need to let yourself listen...

Surprised at the size of this fort and how well it was restored. Very interesting glimpse into the life of soldiers and their families and the difference in the accom. for the officers and the enlisted men. Quite large tract of land with good descriptions. The nearby bridge is well worth a visit. Very hot when we were there and... More

Our family (three adults) visited Wyoming and Nebraska to see historic and natural sites. The grounds at Fort Laramie National Historic are extensive – 833 acres in all. The National Park Service manages the site and has done a great job restoring many of the buildings. We were very impressed. There is a staffed visitor center with a small museum,... More

We were running late and it was closed so we stopped by first thing in the morning. We were the only ones in the visitor center and we got a down and dirty history of the Fort. The ranger was more than knowlegable

This place got so many mentions in the western TV shows and books I read as a child. A marvellous place to visit. Great visitor centre with gift shop. Staff really helpful. We walked round the site with the aid of the visitors guide, The place is steeped in history and a lot of work has been done to make... More
