Davis Mountains SP is gorgeous, and the facilities and level of maintenance make it seem like a mini National Park. We came to the area to visit Big Bend, and we ended up loving this State Park just as much. It's small and manageable, requires less time in the car, and you can bring your dogs on the trails. Our... We were in the area and wanted to ensure a visit to the Davis Mountains. We had about an hour to hike. The ranger recommended Montezuma Quail trail to Indian Lodge trail. We hiked to the high point only. The trail was steeper and rockier than we expected. The rocks were lose and volcanic. Very tough to get traction. The... More

We spent a few hours driving around the state park as we were staying at Balmorhea State Park (admission was free due to this). The campsites were busy due to spring break, but it did not seem crowded when driving around. There are walking/hiking trails throughout the area all different length and levels. You can also drive to the tops... More

We are camping in Alpine, but we thought we would check out the state park since we have an annual pass. It was worth the visit. This park has spots for all kinds of camping, from tent to full hookups for RVs. The Indian Lodge on site offers hotel accommodations for those who don't want to camp. The lodge even... More

Drive in from Houston with two teenagers less than impressed with my choice of west Texas as our spring break destination. However, I am happy to report these very tough critics absolutely fell in love with the beauty of the park and the mountains and volunteered to wake up early in the morning to go hiking in the park!!! The... More

of course you have to pay to just drive thought, but be sure to take the high scenic road all the way to the top. We got out and hiked for about 30 minutes. I think you can take a trail that comes out over the back top bluff of the Fort.

We had friends who were coming a week later than us in their new RV and asked us to check out the RV Park and Campground for them. We gave it a big thumbs up, beautiful sites, very clean, hiking, good hookups, etc. We were a bit early in the spring, and I can imagine it is even more beautiful... More

Even as remote as this place is, it is still very popular. We stayed two nights hoping to see the stars, but the weather did not cooperate. I hope to go another time. Also, despite having metal fire rings, we were unable to have a campfire, so the cold mornings and nights were not as comfortable as they could have... More
