For hiking and camping, this state park ranks as one of my family's favorites. The rock formations and grasses typical of Fort Davis are gorgeous year-round. There was a fire in approx 2011 but the park has bounced back with beautiful foliage and color. There...More

Our family did our first hike of 2017 at the Davis Mountains State Park. Our 4 year old and 9 year old completed the Indian Lodge Trail. It is a challenging hike with good elevation changes and narrow downhill paths. Gorgeous views from the top....More

Made a short visit to the park. Did the Skyline road excursion. Great panoramic views. There are many trails for the hiking enthusiasts to enjoy. Was a sunny but cold and windy day so we mainly drove around and enjoyed the views.

I and my children, ages 11 and 8, had a few hours to kill before heading to McDonald Observatory and wanted to go on a medium hike with great views. While this trail proved more challenging than what I was expecting, it was nothing the...More

A lot of effort has been put into making this state park a hospitable destination. It is very attractive. Provisions in the nearby town of Fort Davis, TX, are limited. Be prepared. Be sure to visit the interpretive center for the history of the area...More

June is the hottest month of the year in this area. Temperatures can easily reach 100 degrees and it is extremely dry. Dehydration is a major concern. People die in this area from dehydration while hiking every single year.
