What a forward thinker this man was. He wired the home for electricity before it was available but knew it was coming. Indoor plumbing with flushing water closets and hot and cold running water. Beautiful grounds and a "bird's nest" on top to see his beloved river and ships. Definitely a must see in Astoria. Buy the Heritage Pass that... More

Finally found the time to visit this lovely home with plenty of local history. The local historical society has done a great job in keeping this special part of the town's history available to the public.

We never did tour the place, but I wanted to write a review anyway to let people know to be sure to get there more than 1/2 hour before closing because the elderly hostess will close early for the day and not allow tours! Our group of three was walking up to the tour office to get tickets, and there... More

Our tour took us to Astoria for a day. The weather was questionable, but this beautifully maintained home was well worth our stop. The docent was friendly and knowledgeable and the explanatory notes at each room were great. The film in the former Carriage House, as well as the few artifacts on display there, added to our enjoyment. This is... More

Nice place to learn a little history of the area. Video presentation in the gift shop provided a good background of the family and building. Wonderful architecture inside and out especially when you think about the time it was built. Ground are well maintained, would love to go back when everything is in bloom.

Wander through a large Victorian mansion dating from the hay day of the Robber Barrons. Furnishings have been restored. Volunteers are very knowledgeable. Great insight into how the rich lived.

You should go to the carriage house to buy your tickets instead of going to mansion first. Considering the history of this mansion and the state it was left in by the children of the builder, I think what the county has done to restore it is nothing less than phenomenal. The tour guide was very good and told us... More

We stumbled on this place and it turned out to be one of our favorite places in Astoria! What a beautiful home, so great that it is now a museum and will remain in its original condition for ever.

Enjoyed this home and all it's history. The story of the captain and his family was very interesting. We enjoyed the video in the carriage house giving us the background to get the most out of the tour

Flavell house was the residence of one of Astoria's leading citizens. Architecture is interesting and interior is fascinating. Very well maintained by Historical Society.
