Lewis and Clack spent the winter here on their exploring across the Norther West Territories. They crossed over from Cape Disappointment to winter here, before starting their return back across this great country.

My 3 and 5 year old loved this place and we spent at least 2hrs there! It's pretty amazing to see all the help that went into making this creative park.

I brought my visiting my visiting God daughter and she loved it. She met some new friends there and we ended up staying for over an hour. I loved how there is a separate area for the little ones. I would really recommend a picnic and break at this great park for some free fun. Minutes from downtown Astoria just on the Sunny Slope side of Astoria with a nice view of the river. Benches for the adults to chill out and plenty of stuff to do to keep the kids busy and worn out.

Lots to do at this park! Glad we found it. Kids needed somewhere to stretch their legs after driving from the coast and this was perfect!

Our large group that for lunch at the park, the kids love the playgrounds, the grassy green areas and picnic tables were perfect for a picnic. The only downside is that The picnic tables are not ADA accessible and my 80+-year-old mother had an extremely difficult time there.

This park has it all -- two castle-like playgrounds (one especially designed for the littlest kids), a detached skate park, a basketball court, a large, covered picnic area, 2 bathroom facilities, grand, sloping lawns, a separate area with nice trees and grass, and views of Youngs River Bay. On-site and street parking is available. Dairy Queen is right next door for easy access to food and drinks.

This is a great park for kids. They have two different areas one for little kids and one for older. Kids will be busy for hours you might have a hard time getting them to leave.

As one of a family that was growing up in Astoria in the 60's
and 70's we all played and swam
at the pools and park that were constructed post world war 2.
It was built on the sunny south slope of our often windy cold summer little town.

Then times were hard on Tapiola,
The pools had aged and the cost to maintain and repair becane prohibitive. With leadership from people like our Mayor Willis Van Duesen, our parks and rec man Fred Lindstrom a new pool was built, by the hospital near downtown. This is not to be missed. We all enjoy this new pool for our morning swim and I like the pool that the works against you to give the exercise or therapy needed.
At that time the park became what it is today. Much money and hard work was spent here, one can see as we enjoy all the improvements here and the adjoining baseball fields. Including much volunteer labor!! Signage designates some. One can bring the kids meet with the other parents of children . The replicas of the area such as Fort Clatsop are well done. It is a creative yet restful and a great family park. Our local dairy queen across the street.
An area and work that makes you return time after time with the family. Something for all ages including skate park, swing and amusements for younger, ball fields, picnic area , to name a few.
Beautiful views of Youngs Bay.
