A must-see in Astoria

Gorgeous and obligatory if you've come this far. Be warned it is quite windy and a bit chilly up there, but still lovely and well worth it.

I don't consider myself afraid of heights, but climbing the spiral staircase to the viewing deck was a little nerve wracking. Much taller than it seems. Rewarded with a spectacular view of the area at the top though!

Nicely restored. Did miss the old log slice that was labeled with significant moments of history, including the birth of Christ.

We walked up from town, probably not something we would do again, but it was a pleasant, if steep, journey. After recovering from our journey, we continued up the 164 steps to the top of the column. It was cold and windy, but the vistas were more than worth it.

This is a unique and interesting local find. The 360 degree view of Astoria and the Columbia River make the short drive well worth the time. There is a small gift shop where many unique items are available. The climb to the top of the column is 164 steps on a spiral staircase what provides a breathtaking view from the... More

On a clear day this will give you a great view of the area. They charge $5 to enter the park and explore area. Great place to come for a picnic or climb the tower if you'd like.

But the views of just the area are awesome! I was blown away at the probably 270° views. I wasn't making the trek up those stairs. No way! My husband did but i just don't think it would be that different of a perspective.

Who doesn't turn into a little kid when you throw in some $1 wooden gliders and 164 steps up a tower? Totally worth the stop. It was snowing when we got here but it didn't diminish the fun. Our family of four went up for a "glide-off" (the youngest won). The teenagers collected their gliders from the lawn and went... More
