It's a long hike up, but you can get a 360 degree view - the rivers connecting to the Columbia, the bridge across the Columbia, and Washington State on the other side.

Top of Oregon, top of the Column. This is a no-brainer on a clear (or even semi-clear) day. Loved the historical mural on the side, loved the view even more. Look for the Goonies house. Hike up if you can.

The tower is a work of art and worth taking the drive just to see it. The view from the parking lot area is pretty great however the view from the top of the column was amazing. The 167 stair spiral staircase was a simple...More

A must for a visit to Astoria. The Column sits on top of a hill with a stunning view that stretches from Sea Side OR to Cape Disappointment WA. A $5.00 entry fee is charged for a season parking pass. Nice park with a few...More

Loved the views from the Column. Steep sorta slippery stairwell up and down. The parking area is kinda tight on busy days. But also a great place to just sit relax and watch the world go by.

The column itself is pretty but not necessarily worth it all by itself if it was any trouble getting to it. but it's easy to find. you get to drive right to it. but boy what a view - even if you don't get out...More

We were on a tight schedule so had to see the column on a very rainy and foggy day, which made our $5.00 a waste as we couldn't see anything from up there. The column itself is very interesting. The winding road to get to...More

The column stands atop Coxcomb hill and the 164 steps up a spiral staircase to the top was well worth the effort for the magnificent panoramic view.

Went there on Christmas day, it was covered in clouds at that time, as the clouds dispersed, the view of the city and areas around was superb, couldn't go at the top of column due to small children

It is a little more than a mile and a half from the Maritime Museum on the riverfront, and all uphill. I don't know if there are buses that go up there.

30 min is about right but if you're lucky and have a great day then you'd want a little longer. I say plan for an hour. If you're in that much of a hurry then don't go. I've been there twice BTW.
