best view in Astoria, see all the way to the ocean at sunset, climb the 110 or so steps, great after work, run ;-)

I believe they somewhat recently refurbished the outside of the column. Last time I was here there were some cracks which made our decision to climb to the top a bit hairy. The depictions on the outside are super clean and vivid, and the column...More

Three generations of us visited in November 2017. The only cost was $5 for parking. The walk is very doable. We could see Mt Ranier 177 miles away. We bought the planes in the gift shop and they were really fun to launch from the...More

The climb up the tight spiral spiral staircase was worth it when we opened the door at the top and saw the great view.

You can get a great view of the river on a clear day, but that’s not what we were dealing with in this visit. It was cold, windy and raining cats&dogs. Exactly what one should expect in winter. It’s still and interesting place to come...More

It surely was a treat to visit the Astoria Column. Well worth the $5.00 parking fee. The grounds are green and beautiful, parking is ample and the panoramic views make the uphill trip well worth it. Climbing the stairs up to the top are for...More

What a great view! Filled with history and a must see! There is a $5 fee to get in the parking lot but well worth it. The money goes to restoring the column. We did not go up the column but admired the view from...More

Today was the second time we visited the column. It was a cold and windy day, but you hardly feel the chill after climbing the 180 stairs. Even if you don't feel you can (or wish to) climb to the top, the view from the...More

We did a quick stop in Astoria and did not expect much from the small town. I was surprised by the energy of the people here and their desire to help see the best of their home. One of the recommended “must sees” that we...More

Climb the 180 or so stairs to the top of the column and you have the best view of Astoria. At the top there is a walkway where you can walk all the way around the column to admire the views and take pictures. You...More

It is a little more than a mile and a half from the Maritime Museum on the riverfront, and all uphill. I don't know if there are buses that go up there.

30 min is about right but if you're lucky and have a great day then you'd want a little longer. I say plan for an hour. If you're in that much of a hurry then don't go. I've been there twice BTW.

Don't really know but it is under restoration right now. Might want to call thePark and check on completion date.
