Historians are in dispute over the exact location of Fort Caroline, but this replica is most likely what it looked like wherever it sat. Another hidden gem in the Jacksonville, Fl area. The fort features a comprehensive visitors center, gift shop and tour guides who will relate the history of the fort and the region. Amust for history buffs and... More

So, Getting there: not very clearly marked. Use your GPS. We even used the GPS and still got a little turned around. But once you figure out where it is, that area is actually easy/simple to get to. This is a morning or cool day activity. The area is so beautiful, very shady and right on the river, with that... More

Great little spot to go get away from it all. Beautiful scenery, and really a peaceful setting. I would go back and visit.

We took the short trail back to the fort and walked all around. Not much to it but pretty cool and interesting to learn the history behind it. Did not go in to the visitor center because we had our dogs with us.

We visit historical places and places intended to display history and this was just sad! Total waste of time and gas to drive there! The inside visitor center was extremely small with only a very small amount of artifacts, they were not at all exciting to say the least. We had our 9 &10 yr old kids with us. We... More

Fort Caroline is located in the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve, and gives you the opportunity to view both together. From the Visitor Center it is a short walk down a trail to the reproduction of the French fort. It can get a little hot during the summer, so prepare accordingly.

There is not much to see here unlike their companion site Kingsley Plantation. Unfortunately, they still have not located the real fort. The replica they built is okay but doesn't take much time to view. The museum does a nice job explaining the background story. We were told that the couple of hiking trails are nice, but the weather did... More

We learned about the site at Castillo San Marcos in St. Augustine and decided to visit. Who knew that there was a failed French colony in Florida? Well, we didn't at any rate. It gave us a chance to learn about this interesting part of the area's history. The fort is a reconstruction and its exact site isn't known, but... More

We've been to the forts around St. Augustine, where the Spanish history is prevalent. It was interesting to see how the French also tried to colonize the area--and to find out that the hero of St. Augustine led a ruthless raid to slaughter the French settlers. The walk to the modern-built fort (made to fit historical descriptions) is short and... More

Great place to learn about the French colony in Florida. It is a perfect place for a great walk, looking at the old trees, the St. Johns River, as well as birds and other animals. The fort is a reminder that the Spaniards and the French had some fights over the new territory called La Florida. You can also walk... More
