Museum was nice. We walked out to the first few fossilized trees. We were there in July and it was about 108 degrees. Because of the heat, we did not attempt the hike. The park was beautiful and I am sure it would have been...More

The national monument focuses on the fossilized trees on trails in the park. The small leaves, fish, and insects are briefly mentioned. The displays are highly informative, but I expected to see more of the real fossils inside.

We walked the fossil loops and saw some great redwood stumps, but the real attraction was the homestead. The Ranger Ray is knowledgeable and informative. Be sure to go tour the farmstead.

This was a very interesting and cool monument with great displays. It is basically petrified redwood tree trunks and animal and plant fossils from 34 million years ago. Staff was all very friendly.

Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument is another great National Park! It showcases a unique geological occurrence that created wonderfully preserved fossils and gigantic petrified trees that dwarf the California redwoods. It encompasses some gorgeous geography on the "back side" of Pikes Peak. It is only...More

Some of the trees are just out of the back door of the visitors center. The terrain is fairly flat, so walking the trails shouldn't be that much of a problem. There is another attraction there not far from the visitor center... More
