I'm a National Parks fan and Parks Pass holder. This was one of the best National Historic sites I've ever visited and I've seen most everything in the NYC area and upstate NY area. The tour is excellent and informative.

The tour was very thorough. Our guide aptly handled every question thrown at him. I was a bit disappointed because parts were under construction.

Gorgeous day, splendid views. Nearing end of 3 year restoration. This is one of 90 mentions on the river towards NYC. Smallest of the many Vanderbilt mansions.

They are nearing the end of a massive restoration of this historic mansion. There is still scaffolding on the outside and all the interior furniture and decorative objects are gathered into the center of rooms and covered in tarps. That notwithstanding the tour was quite...More

The Vanderbilt Mansion is just down the road from Franklin D. Roosevelt’s home and is certainly worth the trip. However, some visitors are going to be disappointed, as most of the furnishings of this Gilded Age building are draped or removed, while the building is...More

We had the opportunity to visit the historical Vanderbilt Manison. Amazing structure unfortunately it was in the middle of a major renovation. Would like to return after renovations are complete. Tour guide did an excellent job.

We didn't tour the mansion due to construction (although we got to the gift shop which has lovely things at reasonable prices!). Instead we walked the grounds. Nice paths, well maintained.

We thought twice about going to the Vanderbilt home, due to the current renovations going on. I'm glad we went. A lot of the kudos goes to our parks service guide Mike. Even though we could not access some of the house & the furnishings...More

Although I did not tour the mansion, I parked my car around 9:30 am to walk. There were lots of other walkers and their dogs. If you follow the rest of the walkers kind of, you can take the paved walk that goes down hill...More

We didn't go into the mansion because it's under construction, but walked around the gardens and grounds, which are beautiful! Looking forward to going back once the construction is done!

Did you miss those big blue signs that point direct you to "Vanderbilt estate" ? Big arrows? Sorry you were so stressed but you might try say, Google Maps?

Yeah but would be tight. If you just visited the homes yes, but might be a stretch if you plan to go to FDR museum and the grounds of the properties.
