Well worth a visit, this mansion sits atop a hill with commanding views of the Hudson River. The grounds are beautiful and afford plenty of opportunity for interesting walks and picnics. Unfortunately, due to school tour bookings, a morning tour was not available at the...More

The actual house was being refurbished so we weren't able to go inside but the guest house and grounds are beautiful. I can only imagine what it was like to live or be a guest there during it's hey days. Lovely place to visit.

We showed up for the 10am tour, but there was a school bus of children there for that particular tour so we were unable to do that one. They said we could come back at noon or four. We chose four o'clock and visited some...More

The home was closed but it was a nice walk around the mansion and grounds. It will be nice to see the inside at some point but since it was a beautiful sunny day it was just fine!

We were driving from Vermont down to JFK, looking for fun places to stop. The mansion was marked on our map and also well sign-posted. Turned off the road and instantly loved the view. Quite a lot of trees and a long series of driveways...More

The Vanderbilt Mansion was smaller than I'd expected, having seen other of the Vanderbilt properties. But the mansion, although small, was quite opulent. I loved the docent. She was very funny and not a little pointed about how well the Vanderbilts lived. I could see...More

The renovations are beautiful and scaffolding is gone. One of the gems of the Hudson Valley remaining from the Guilded Age. Maggie was our guide and she was fantastic. Educational with a humorous edge! Love this period of ostentatiousness!

We went here because I thought it would be awesome. Think about it - Vanderbilt was one of the great industrialists of the Gilded Age, one of the richest men in America, and this was his mansion, so it must be incredible, right? Not exactly....More

Did you miss those big blue signs that point direct you to "Vanderbilt estate" ? Big arrows? Sorry you were so stressed but you might try say, Google Maps?
