A short walk takes you up to a fence where you have a nice view of the arch. There is also a trail which goes up to the arch. Wear hiking boots.

This was one of many wonderful views within the El Malpais National Monument. Only an hour + outside of Albuquerque and the landscape is completely different. This is one of many must see stops within the National Park system.

The La Ventana Arch is located along the eastern side of El Malpais National Monument (on Route 117). It is an interesting arch, but nothing like Arches National Park. It is only a short walk from the parking lot to the arch. Unfortunately, they don't allow you to get close enough to the arch (unless you decide to hop the... More

largee natural arch - impressive in size but even with short trail to the base, hard to get a decent pic from that perspective.

They way to really see this arch is to hike the 4 miles up the Narrows Trail and see the arch from a distance. The hike was a relatively easy 4 miles with wonderful views for miles in the distance. It was quite breezy though!

Only 17 miles south of Interstate 40 on NM Hwy 117 (near Grants), this is an easy day trip from the Albuquerque area and has gorgeous scenery. On the western side of the drive are the amazing lava flows of the El Malpais National Monument. There is a Gila Wilderness parking area just off the road with a really easy... More

Nice arch, good view from the parking lot, fair amount of parking. There is a short (1/2 mile round trip according to the sign) graveled path to get closer.

As a Native New Mexican, I say, as you're heading to La Ventana, on the right side of the highway, you'll see a Sign for the site. Rather than looking to your left, keep looking right. Drive up the hill, until you find a widening in the shoulder, Carefully turn around and drive back the way you came. You'll understand... More
