Tintype Photo

We stopped here to have a old time photo taken in our period clothes and were not disappointed. Our photos turned out awesome. We are already making plans to have another taken.

This was such a unique opportunity to learn the historical process of 19th century photography and walk away with the results. Starting with a piece of tin, Rob Gibson explained the entire process, which culminated an hour later in a tintype picture of us in Civil War era garb. The gallery's walls are covered with Gibson's photos of everyone from... More

This experience was the best part our trip to Gettysburg! Mr. Gibson explained the whole process step by step & my kids especially enjoyed hearing how pictures were done in the 1800's. He had all the costumes at his studio & it was authentic down to the accessories. We had to sit still for 18 seconds just like over 150... More

Having a photo made was so much fun to do because the whole process was fascinating. This is no digital camera stuff. This is the real deal like they used back in the 1800's with the chemical process and plate glass or tin-type photo. Rob works his magic and within a few minutes you have an authentic piece of art... We had the pleasure of being photographed by Mr Gibson. He was very patient with us and my little one. He explained the process and gave us options. He went through the costumes with us and helped us get dressed. We had the options of confederate or Union or civilian. I had an option of day dress or ball gown.... More

He is a personable ,excellent photographer and a teacher explaining the process. The picture is processed on a tin plate as your negative then can be... More

You HAVE to go here if you're going to be in Gettysburg! Robert Gibson has been doing this for a long time, he's a professional who's even been to the White House to take his unique photos! Not the cheap imitation digital studios. You pay for it, but they dress everyone, position everybody perfectly, take the image, and give you a lesson in historic photography. Why do photography paper when tintype or ambrotype is an option. Their eye for details gives you instant (ok, couple hours) family histories. The only advice: go with patience; it's art...thus can't... More
