The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War, the Union victory that ended General Robert E. Lee's second and most ambitious invasion of the North. Often referred to as the "High Water Mark of the Rebellion", Gettysburg was the Civil War's bloodiest battle and was also the inspiration for President Abraham Lincoln's immortal "Gettysburg Address".

We chose to hire a private guide based on other reviews here on TripAdvisor. Excellent decision. Ed drove us around the battlefield, giving context and recreating imagery for a lasting memory. The three day battle unfolded as Ed walked and drove us through the rolling hills, up to Little Round Top and Devil's Den. Very personalized. The facility was exceptional,... More

In 2015 we visited for the afternoon and tried to complete the Auto tour but failed! This year we came for three days and started from the beginning. Hopefully when our children are older and can handle an official tour with a tour guide we will do it properly.

I visited Gettysburg a number of times in my past but it has been years. I am amazed at how much has been improved with the museums and the visitors center. Wonderful experience at one of our worst moments.

Learned so much and a lot to see. Cost was great. We went through the museum and saw all the old artifacts.

If you enjoy history at all, this is a must! I am a senior and never really had the desire to visit Gettysburg, but it was absolutely a highlight of my trip through the Northeast! The topography is beautiful, the scope of what happened here is so moving! I definitely recommend this and I would recommend a guide!

WE took the guided car tour, where the guide drove the car. Extremely informative and would not have wanted to see the battlefield any other way. Saw and heard a lot more than expected. Highly recommend vs self tour or bus.

We spent at least seven hours doing the auto tour but very little walking, which helped us realize how easy it would be to spend multiple days here, also walking, biking, horse-back riding. So much to learn about military history and strategy, as well as the profound sacrifice made by so many. Visitor Center is well organized, book shop very... More

The National Military Park at Gettysburg is a beautiful, peaceful spot with a great deal of history. As you travel around the battle fields learning about the area, stop at the cemetery to see the spot Lincoln read the Gettysburg Address, find your state's monument and those who died in the battle.

We were just driving through so only had a few hours to spare. I know my husband wishes he had at least a full day to really appreciate the park. Best to plan out the visit in advance to appreciate this great park.

The Battle of Gettysburg was one of the seminal conflicts in the US Civil War. Visiting this area will bring the impact of that conflict to life. While you can catch a glimpse of Gettysburg at the Visitor's Center, venture beyond the hub of this experience to Culp's Hill, Devil's Den, Little Round Top, Big Round Top, the Eternal Flame,...
