The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War, the Union victory that ended General Robert E. Lee's second and most ambitious invasion of the North. Often referred to as the "High Water Mark of the Rebellion", Gettysburg was the Civil War's bloodiest battle and was also the inspiration for President Abraham Lincoln's immortal "Gettysburg Address".

We spent most of a day driving around the park. It was chilly, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. We used a iPad app to learn about the various areas of the park and where different parts of the battle took place. My husband liked climbing the three observation towers and got so,e great pictures.

After taking the tours of the battle, coming to the monument was very sobering to me for the cost of the war in human life.

Some people forget, this place is an amazing peace of history. The battlefield has CD's in the visitor center that you can play as you tour around Gettysburg. If your visiting you need one of these. The battlefield tour has plenty of pull-off's and photo spots. Expect about 6 hours to take everything in. Please read up on the history... More

Before visiting Gettysburg National Military Park, we watched a documentary about the battle to get the "lay of the land". But visiting the museum and taking a private tour really put this part of history into perspective. The museum is informative and well laid out, and the cyclorama is definitely worth visiting. There are self-guided car tours and bus tours... More

Civil War battlefields are so important to our history that they should be preserved forever. Gettysburg is a perfect example of preservation at its best. The whole area is well maintained and gives all of us a chance to experience our history. The car tour is well marked and allows visitors to drive to highlighted areas and then walk around... More

We had an amazing and educational visit. The museum/visitor center was fantastic, great displays-the cyclorama being most impressive. The monument tour was so worth our time. Thanks to the people, past and present, that Gettysburg represents.

Sometimes I am happy to tell my husband he is right, and this was one of them! I expected to see a bunch of rusty old canons and fields of grave stones, this was so much more. The visitor center with its introductory video presentation, unique cyclorama (small extra charge, but well worth it), uniforms and artifacts all work together... More

First visit was back in the 70's and the place was rundown, 2nd visit was in '93 and improvements had been made, but still needed lots of work. Just went, 2017, and wow: vast improvements! So much so that I felt like I was there for the first time. This place is a Civil War buffs dream come true. There... More
