The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War, the Union victory that ended General Robert E. Lee's second and most ambitious invasion of the North. Often referred to as the "High Water Mark of the Rebellion", Gettysburg was the Civil War's bloodiest battle and was also the inspiration for President Abraham Lincoln's immortal "Gettysburg Address".

We were just passing through and I managed to book a hotel near here. I managed to get a couple of hours to visit in the morning, which is all we had. While I didn't get the benefit of the free guided tours, the museum...More

Beautiful and moving. We did the auto tour after the museum, film and mural. It took us about 4 hours to see most of the sights. A must see in PA

We took the bus tour of the park. Approximately 2 hours long. Our tour guide, Clay, was very knowledgeable. This was an excellent tour which had several stops where we could get out of the bus. After the tour, we did the Cyclorama at the...More

Great park with some great history and great scenery. The many monuments tell the story in details you would never get in a history book. Great place to hike or bike.

While the park is primarily for an auto tour, we've walked around the park and there are plenty of things to see.

Remarkable! The military park is laid out so that you can travel from battlefield to battlefield seamlessly. The route is well marked. The monuments along the way are tributes to those who fought at Gettysburg. I was amazed at how many different monuments there were...More

My wife and I toured the Gettysburg battlefield today. I just read the reviews here on trip advisor. One thing that is missing from most of the reviews is that you can actually walk across the Wheatfield where "Pickett's Charge" took place on day three....More

We visited and took the bud tour - It was great, but the walking (self tour) when you get off the bus in different areas is what's most memorable. The place is awesome, we were awe struck at the rich history and sacrifice given by...More

Went to Gettysburg originally for ghost hunting, but the beauty and history is amazing. So much larger than I expected. The whole town is amazingly clean, considering how many tourists there are. Spent 3 nights and 4 days, still didn't get to see and do...More

Hie, We didn't hire a guide during our tour but used auto tour self drive using the map provided free at the visitor center. However it is better if you buy the audio cd as suggested if you chose to self drive. You could... More
Hi, I would like to know how big the crowds are during the weekend/days around the July 4th battle anniversary. Would it be better to visit on Saturday or Sunday that weekend? How early do you think we should get to the park to avoid the largest of the crowds? Thank you so very much for your help.

REALLY BIG, especially considering that Saturday and Sunday (July 1 and 2) are both commemorative of the battle itself. If you're looking to avoid crowds, you won't avoid them on those days (no matter how early). You'll... More
