My favorite local hiking spot

What a great place to spend an hour or two hiking around. Peace and quiet found in the 5th largest city in the US and you would forget that here.

Wandering the Valley Green park around the wide apart of the Wissahickon by the Valley Green Inn is always pleasant. There are bench to sit and watch the water fowl or to run and bike.

Easy walking on well laid out trails in a scenic wooded area. Highly recommended year round hiking with a nice canopy of trees

Popular walking and biking trail without leaving the city. Wooded and splendid views of trees, plants, water, hills, bridges, old ruins and former park springs. Great for families. Parking on sight. Many people assure complete safety.

Great spot for hiking, biking or just sitting on a bench and watching the ducks. Forbidden Drive is flat and wide, easy to walk or with a stroller. Favorite spot for our family. Weekends can be crowded and parking is limited. Plan on spending all day there. Bathrooms at Valley Green Inn.

Beautiful place to go if you're in the mood to get out of the city and get back to nature. Really can clear your mind. Very peaceful. Great place to go for a walk/hike.

The Wissahickon Park really is a hidden gem. 50 miles of trails in a narrow valley inside the city limits. Interesting geological formations, abundant trees and plants, birds, toads, turtles, deer, and many other small animals. Nice paths on which to stroll or bike, but also rocky ones for interesting hikes. No long climbs, but many short ones that can... More

We enjoyed and early spring hike. The woodsy trails are well marked and easy to follow, or you can walk along the river on an (auto-free) road. Lots of families were out enjoying their Saturday.

I have been going here since I was a kid. It is a great running route for any distance. No cars allowed. There is mountain biking trails, hiking trails, Devils Pool where some people try and swim or dive. There are ducks to feed and a nice place to eat. If photography is your passion, it is a dream with... More

We live very near to this park and enjoy it year round. Biking (leisure, mountain), hiking, jogging, horseback, walking flat or hilly trails are all there. This park also supports Geocaching so lots of hides are waiting to be found and logged. The trails surrounding Forbidden Drive at the upper area are well maintained and the part of the park... More
