Shane Confectionery is the oldest continuously-run confectionery in the United States, established in 1863. The Shane family took over the business in 1911, installing elaborately carved woodwork, stained glass and curved windows to showcase the chocolates and confections made onsite. Ninety-nine years later, in 2010, the business transitioned to the Berley Brothers who own the nearby Franklin Fountain and whom embarked on a meticulous restoration of the building and business. Candies continue to be made on-site, with an emphasis on locally-sourced ingredients, seasonal specialties and old-fashioned quality. Beginning in 2014 a Chocolate Café was opened in the back of Shane Confectionery, illustrating the history of cacao in the form of luxurious drinking chocolates and brewed infusions.

Candy is delicious, but for all the old fashioned quaint environment and beautiful displays, the candy is just good, not breathtaking, and quite expensive. It is right next to Franklins Fountain and with a line around the block there, this is a great sweet alternative. They have a European coffee bar in the back that I must go to. The... More

Hundreds of sweets to choose from. They are all still made with the original recipes and have everything you can think of. Stop here when you are in Old City for a treat.

Beautiful decor reminiscent of a turn-of-the-century soda fountain or candy shop. Homemade chocolates were delicious, fresh chocolate covered strawberries and cinnamon hearts.

Excellent high quality sweets. Almost impossible to choose. We selected a modjeska, caramels and a chocolate covered pretzel. All were great.

...when women wore full skirts and little bonnets. Shane's Confectionary will wend you back to a time of barley sugar lollipops, hand dipped chocolates, rock candy swizzlers, and all sorts of delightful sweets.

This is a very cute shop. It was cold and we found it by mistake. We had a hot chocolate prepared in the old fashion way, and it was delicious.

Found this hidden gem walking around aimlessly and so glad we did. The staff wears the old fashion uniforms and the shop looks like it's orginal from when the store opened in 1911. Even went back the next day for more goodies.

We go weekly to Shane's for superior chocolates that are made on site and produced and delivered in an American Revolutionary period setting. The range of offerings is extensive and the flavors are memorable owing mainly to the magic of their freshly made encounters in the store's back rooms - which, by the way can be visited. Shane's is in... More

Don't miss this olde candy store. Cute!! Little pricey but delicious chocolates. Dark and milk chocolates. Awesome almond, salted, bark, dark chocolate. Allergy friendly. Nice people. Fun place to visit!

As soon as you walk through the door, you are enveloped with sweet deliciousness and feel like you've traveled back in time. The shop is beautiful with all of it's original décor. Even the staff is dressed in the clothing of the era in which it opened. Still this is nothing compared to the variety of sweets available. Truly a... More
