really a treat to visit

It may not look so incredibly inviting from the outside, but step inside and you will likely be transformed. A world of things to see and do for people of nearly all ages.

Thank goodness the Barnes moved to this new site in Philadelphia. The building itself is a piece of artwork and the collection is a must see!

The history of the Barnes Foundation is interesting all by itself, but the experience is so much more. If you think you have been to art museums before, you haven't been to this one. It is art to be appreciated, as well as art in a historical context. Dr. Barnes may have been eccentric, but he was clearly a genius.... More

I gave it 4 stars because the collection in this location replicates the original pattern at the Barnes mansion in Bala Cynwd. The paintings are hung from waist-level to 15-20 ft. off the floor, regardless of size, making some of them difficult to study. So it's a bit overwhelming for a single visit. For sheer volume of art, however, if... More

I had no idea this even existed. I understand it was once in a suburb of the City. Anyway, the rooms were incredible. But the best part, surprisingly, was an exhibition on the history of photography. If you can see this with the guide that is wearing a skullcap, you'll be really lucky. He tells you all about how the... More

If you are into Impressionist art, then visit the Barnes Foundation. It will be worth your while. It has one of the world's largest collections of paintings by Renoir and Cezanne as well as many others.

The Barnes is like no museum you have ever seen-- because it is not a museum. It is the private collection of Albert Barnes, arranged exactly as it was when he died-- and cannot be moved. Barnes was the first American collector to buy impressionists, and there are many paintings by Renoir, Cezanne, and Picasso. The galleries are much smaller... More
