Woodmere houses a treasure trove of Philadelphia Artistic History. Its soul purpose is to expose the general public to the lives of creative Philadelphians who have contributed their talents to record the city's history in uniquely artistic mediums. There is a permanent exhibition and there are regularly changing exhibits featuring paintings, sculpture, photography, ceramics and other mediums that represent culturally... More

We went specifically for the Jerry Pinkney exhibit - having met his daughter over breakfast at the Chestnut Hill Hotel! We were on our way home and stopped for a quick hello and stayed for an hour. We will go back to this spot. Sunday is a free day and they had lots of activities for children - including a... More

Woodmere is not your typical art museum because it focuses on exhibiting the creative work produced exclusively by Philadelphia artists. By doing so, the museum not only tells the stories of these very talented individuals is also the history of Philadelphia. The museum has new ongoing, rotating exhibitions almost monthly giving the art loving community a chance to view new... More

We visited Woodmere to see the special exhibition of John Mosley photography which was fascinating. Through his great photos we learned a lot about Philadelphia and the Philadelphia African American community the 1940's to 1960's. We also viewed another fascinating exhibit showing "The Night Before Christmas " through various paintings a.nd other art forms. While these are temporary exhibits, it... More

This museum hardly looks like a museum. The museum is small but has a lot to offer. It's a nice place to go if you have an hour to spare. The museum has a multitude of exhibits. My favorite is a gallery walk at the top of a room. I highly recommend visiting the Woodmere Art Museum.

It was so wonderful to see so many local artists of all ages. All the artists were either from Philadelphia or trained in the area. The building itself was wonderful and we also went on a Sunday which had free admission. This museum combined with taking a walk on Germantown Ave in Chestnut hill made a very pleasant day.

I am a life long resident of Philadelphia and thought I had seen most of this city's best attractions. However, I had never visited the Woodmere Art Museum until just last week. I had passed it many times but never stopped to see it. From the road it looks like an old mansion set back on a grassy lawn. This... More

We have lived in the area for years and finally visited. Allow an hour or two for your visit. The museum if free on Sundays so leave a donation at the door. Exhibits range from American landscapes to student art.
