I always love to stroll this grand downtown street and admire the shops, look at the menus at the restaurants and enjoy the big city vibe. Very urban, and it can be elegant.

I visited the lovely Walnut Street Theatre - one of oldest in PA- to see the Irving Berlin musical'Holiday Inn' Two days later I realised we could access Rittenhouse Square ( a small but charming public park by walking further along Walnut Street.
There were also many high end shops to look at as well as exclusive apartments. I could certainly recommend Walnut Street

Walnut street is one of the best streets to visit in Philly and there a few streets in Philly that are fun to walk through. A lot of good restaurants, old homes, and shops to look through. Walnut Street is bordered by Independence National Historic Park, Washington Square and historic site after historic site.

This is a busy street right in the centre of the City. The ideal place for me as it has an Apple Store.

I've mentioned before that Walnut Street covers a lot of ground and that the wealthier parts have seen the departure of some iconic restaurants due to high rents.

But it seems to me from a visit yesterday that the area of Walnut Street in the Washington Square West neighborhood has experienced a revival. There are so many great shops including Rikumo, a treasure of high end Japanese products that reminds me of the late, departed Tukashimayo in New York City. Bowls, cutlery, cooking utensils, soaps, towels and more...all exquisite and splendidly understated. The space itself is beautiful with use of pale rocks and small waterfalls. We bought a black, cast iron rice pot that will serve as a great item for cooking as well as a permanent decorative item in our kitchen.

And there are some wonderful bars and restaurants including "Vintage"...a little French gem which I reviewed elsewhere. This neighborhood is worth many visits.

Starting at South Front Street at the Delaware River going west, Walnut Street is almost the dividing line between "Old City" and the "Society Hill sections of historic Philadelphia. As you walk west, Walnut Street is bordered by Independence National Historic Park, Washington Square and historic site after historic site. There are many homes built in the 1700's,along with churches, statues, and colonial gardens that make for an attractive avenue to explore, particularly in the 1st 7 blocks or so.

One of the major streets of Center City, shopping, eating, and some apartments, especially near Rittenhouse Sq. Nice downtown ambience.
