- Vacationer820417New York City, New York81 contributionsRocky Balboa 4 LifeI finally got to visit Rocky and the famous steps he ran up while training for his fight. I just couldn't run up those steps like he did since I had a knee replacement and my running days are long gone. I did walk up those steps and enjoyed the same view he saw from the top.Visited September 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 February 2023
- Von1287Albany, New York771 contributionsWe love Rocky! The line was long in the heat but there were people selling water, ice cream, and also gear along the way. It was fun to get some photos in front of the statue and fun to watch what people do when they stand in front of it! We took a few cool shots and then headed out. We climbed down the stairs after being in the museum and did not regret only climbing up a few since it was 100 degrees literally this day!Visited July 2022Written 9 February 2023
- MaryKateFinNI19Virginia684 contributionsA perfect photography opportunity with the great Rocky Balboa StatueObviously the top thing to do in Philadelphia if you're a Rocky fan or not, our son loved running up the steps and getting his picture taken at the Rocky Statue. It's free, easy to find and a great photograph opportunity. There was a man selling Rocky t-shirts near it, so cool. Parking is closeby. We went Thanksgiving weekend, so it was super busy.Visited November 2022Written 15 March 2023
- Louis L7 contributionsJust take the selfieOkay it’s kind of cheesy but I was running by the Philadelphia art museum and just to the right at street level was a crowd. I ran by to see what the attraction was and there I was. This Rocky statue is easy to get to and a reminder of my youth. If you aren’t into it, you should skip it but if you have an extra three minutes and are nearby, just stop and take a selfie at a cultural icon.Visited April 2023Travelled soloWritten 24 April 2023
- Jason RosenauWestlock, Canada311 contributionsYou didn't come to Philly if you didn't see this.Another thing that just has to be done in Philly. Just beside the Museum of Art where the iconic scene from the 1976 movie took place. Even after all these years people of all ages from everywhere still run up the steps of the museum as a tribute. Because it's Philly it just has to be done.Visited May 2023Travelled soloWritten 23 May 2023
- JackOld Bethpage, New York760 contributionsMust see in Philly! The statue is great. It shows the character “Rocky Balboa” from the 1976 movie, “Rocky”. It is right next to the steps that he climbed up and down numerous times. I recommend coming here and taking a selfie quick, because there are usually lines. I also recommend coming here on weekdays for shorter lines.Visited July 2023Written 18 July 2023
- Patricia BAtyrau, Kazakhstan129 contributionsFun for Rocky FansIf you are a fan of the Rocky movies, this would be fun to see. You can even run up and down the steps with the Rocky theme playing on your phone. It was too hot during our visit. You could combine this with a visit to the Philadelphia Museum of Art Thursday- Monday. The museum is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.Visited July 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 20 July 2023
- JemlnlxBronx, New York4,762 contributionsA must for Rocky Fans or Movie Buffs...A must...especially for movie/Rocky fans. Near the base of the Philadelphia Museum of Art stairs and nearby surrounded by the beautiful park. Lots of people running up and down the steps as expected. There was a line for taking pictures by the statues but it moved fairly quick as most people took a few quick photos and kept it moving...Visited August 2023Travelled on businessWritten 31 August 2023

Have been a massive Rocky fan since I was a kid, so took the opportunity to travel down from NYC to Philadelphia to see the statue and run up the ‘Rocky’ steps. Was a brilliant experience and ticked this one off my bucket list 🇺🇸🥊

As a kid we grew up with Rocky. It was good to run to Rocky every morning and around the area good for running. There are many routes you can take each morning. Phila being voted best walking city and for us a good running city along the cycling paths.

You must see it when you're in Philadelphia. It looks like this is the busiest attraction in the city—a long line of tourists to take a picture with Rocky.

The 72 steps leading up to the Philadelphia Museum of Art were made famous from the film 'Rocky' in 1976. A 10ft bronze Rocky statue was originally positioned on top of the steps where Sylvester Stallone stood but was later moved and placed on a pedestal in a grassy area near the foot of the steps to the right of the Museum. The position on top of the steps was replaced with a bronze inlay of Converse sneaker footprints with the name "Rocky" above them. There were three bronze statues commissioned, of the other two, one is owned by Sylvester Stallone and one is in the Schomberg Studios Gallery in Denver. The steps are one of the city's biggest tourist attractions.

Apparently to the museum, got frustrated with the rocky statue being at the top of the steps so it’s right off to the side of the steps. The steps them selves are still very neat with a lot of people running up them and doing the scene from the rocky movie. The statue itself is not anything super impressive and there’s an individual that hangs around willing to take a picture, but only if they get money.

The statue is free but there are people there organising the queue etc. I wasn’t actually sure if they were genuine employed workers or just locals on a hustle?
We didn’t bother to join the queue as we weren’t interested n having our photo taken with the statue. We wanted just the statue itself which we managed to get in between changeover of people.

The statue is located next to the Rocky steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Parking is very limited, we parked for free down the street and walked over. There are no public restrooms, In the park across the street was porta johns. Some street vendors were selling shirts and drinks. The line for you to take your own pictures went quick, everyone was very respectful waiting their turn.

We did not go into the museum, just stopped for the Rocky Steps. Parking can be difficult; we had to park down the street and walk but parking was free. There are no public restrooms, at the time there were porta johns in the park across the street. While your here you can also stop at the Rocky Statue that is next to the steps

Best Parking near the Museum/Rocky Statue
? Street parking or garage?

There's some parking behind the Philadelphia Museum of Art, but the Art museum is on a traffic circle and getting to the parking can be confusing if you're not familiar with the area. It's a stop in the Hop On Hop Off buses if you are thinking of doing one of those. The Rocky Statue is to the right of the "Rocky Steps" (the ones people run up like Rocky. There's a nice view straight down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway from the top of the steps. BTW, the Art Museum itself is world class.

How difficult would it be to conquer the Rocky Steps? Are they steep? Really wanted to run them but not sure of the fitness level required.

Not difficult at all! And if you put "The Eye of the Tiger" you enjoy the exercise!!!
Do you pay to go on steps

Pay only in sweat and shortness of breath. Awesome view of the city. The statue is free too. But there's always a line. Parking is tough. There are meters along the parkway, and pay lots at the art museum and Franklin institute.

Is there anything going on on the rocky steps on August 15 2015 that would stop us from going on the steps? We tried back in May but they had it blocked off both Saturday and Sunday

We didn't stay in the city. We stayed in Horsham, where we were able to find a relatively inexpensive hotel that had free parking, breakfast, and wifi. It took us about 30 minutes to drive to Independence Park. If you have a car and you're willing to do a bit of driving, you might consider staying in one of the suburban towns just outside the city.
